Ah…so without HKO, I guess I have a lot of freetime on my hands. So I guess I’ve moved temporarily to…listening to music all day! I guess, I’ve been listening to music, watching music videos, watching the bands goof off, looking for new bands, etc. I’ve also been watching dramas, ah, all the crying can get pretty cliche. So, since I’ve been gone for awhile to find new things, here are some things I’ve been enjoying and recommending. I’m currently into Asian boy bands -’_'-, so that’s mainly what there is. So, a list of media things to fill up your time while waiting for HKO:
Bands:
- DBSK-DBSK is already well-known throughout the world, and there’s no surprise that’d they’d be mentioned. DBSK has mini-dramas, a lot of funny videos, and many songs to listen to. Some songs I listen to often are: Rising Sun, Mirotic, Wrong Number, O, and the member solos. They have a capella versions of many of their songs, and in both Japanese and Korean. DBSK is a Korean Pop group with four members: Xiah Junsu, U-Know Yunho, Hero Jaejoong, Max Changmin, and Micky Yoochun.
- Super Junior-I don’t have much to say about this band, but they are actually pretty good. Super Junior and DBSK often join together and sing together, so it turns out pretty well. SJ have their own show, so that’s something to watch. Some songs to start off with are Don’t Don (Don Don), Twins (Knock Out), and Happiness. Super Junior is a Korean Pop/Rock band with 13 members, and I have to say, I’m impressed with how well they do with 13 members.
- Hey! Say! JUMP-Hey! Say! JUMP is a J-Pop band with 10 members, with two subgroups, Hey! Say! BEST, and Hey! Say! 7. They were all born in the Heisei Era, so they are at the oldest, 18, and at the youngest, 13. I enjoy listening to this band for the cheerfulness of the songs, and a couple member’s unique voices or dance steps. I’ve been surprised with Chinen’s voice, first mistaking it as a girl, and Ryutaro, for being the youngest member with one of the deepest voices in the group. They also have makings of ______ videos that are pretty entertaining. Unfortunately, after the band expanded from 5 members to 10, I feel like the chemistry lessened. Some songs to start out with are: Dreams Come True, Your Seed, and Mayonaka no Shadow Boy.
- Home Made Kazoku-This Japanese R&B and hip-hop band is the most recognizable with anime. In the 3 member group, they’ve sang songs for animes like Bleach, Naruto, and Euruka 7. The lyrics for their songs are really admirable, and I enjoy reading the super long lyrics. Some songs to listen to are Shooting Star, No Rain No Rainbow, and Shounen Heart.
- Hangman-Not a very well known group, but an under-estimated group. Hangman is a Thai band, with, through my eyes, under the rock genre. The instrumentals of their songs are very well performed, and their lyrics are quite deeper than they seem. I guess I’ve listened to their album almost everytime I’m in the car; you’d think I’d get bored of them by now, but not really. Some of their songs I enjoy are Chocolate, Hangman, Trai Gee Lah, and No Matter How Many Times I Try I’ll Always Ask (what a mouthful). Don’t let their outer appearance fool you, they are a worthy band to listen to.
Dramas (Not a lot, more might be added):
- Princess Hours-Chaegyung is a normal teenager in high school, in the 21st century where there is a royal family in Korea. The Crown Prince goes to her school, and she eavesdrops on him hearing him propose to Min Hyorin, a ballerina, for marriage or else he will have to marry an unknown girl. Hyorin rejects him, and soon Chaegyung and the Crown Prince’s lives are turned upside down.Though I haven’t watched many dramas, I really enjoy this drama and finished it in less than a week. Though the ending might seem draggy, it is humorous, and romantic to keep you watching the whole way through. Be aware for younger viewers there is a kissing scene in episode 23 that may be inappropriate for some people.
- Scrap Teacher-A Japanese drama that members from Hey! Say! JUMP is in. Because I cannot understand Japanese well and the show is not currently subbed, here is the plot summary from Wikipedia. Nakajima, Yamada, Chinen, and Arioka play a group of junior high students who transfer to a school on the verge of collapse, and take on the role of reforming their incapable teachers. As I mentioned earlier, this show has no subtitles, and so you’ll have to be able to understand Japanese. This show is entertaining so far though, and is currently not done. I am looking forward to watching this, as I’ve only seen a couple parts, but so far it looks like it will be able to keep my attention.
I’ve listed only some things for now, and part 2 of my current cravings recommendations will be featuring all anime for everyone to watch as well. So keep on checking! Thank you! (Sorry if it seems crammed, the formatting got messed up)
