Mumps = Bacteria???
After Kyle’s mom getting infected by Chickenpox, we are now plagued by another virus, Paolo has Mumps!!! We weren’t expecting him to get Mumps, since he has been vaccinated with MMR (measles, mumps and rubella). Maybe he needs booster shots. Paolo is having a hard time swallowing and has fever.
The doctor prescribed some antibiotics, but I thought Mumps is a virus…..? :)

yup mumps is caused by a paramyxovirus. however the virus is self limiting. the doctor prescribed the antibiotic to prevent any concurrent infection that may go with mumps. The most notorious complication of mumps for males is orchitis - inflammation of 1 or both of the testicles due to infection.
as a relief for the pain from parotid glands, you can apply warm or cold compress on the affected part- but i prefer cold though. You can provide him with soft and semisolid foods. Also avoid foods which contain acid which may increase in discomfort.
I suggest that you do terminal disinfection- after paolo is well. Clean his room with water and soap then alcohol/lysol. Also be sure that the room has enough sunshine getting in.
