Kyle’s Birthday Celebration

Monday, July 30th, 2007

At last, Kyle’s Lola has arrived, so we were able to celebrate Kyle’s birthday. We had dinner last Saturday with our Family and relatives. The food was good. When we were about to pay, we said to the manager that it was Kyle’s birthday. He said that he was going to give something for the Birthday celebrant.

Here’s the gift I gave to Kyle. He’s so cute just repeating the words over and over again. He’s with his cousins, Paolo and Jaden

I knew it, it’s a Air Hockey, hahahahaha

Happy Bday Jared Kyle

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Yesterday was my son’s Birthday. We haven’t officially celebrated his birthday cause his lola is still in the province, and we’re still waiting for her. I bought a chocolate cake cause Kyle requested it. My gift was an air hockey, which made my wallet empty.

I’ll post some pictures/videos in the future of them playing the toy. For now here are some pictures of Kyle and his cake.

Harry Potter

Last Saturday we were able to watch the movie. The movie was good, but I still felt that something was missing. There were more talk and less action.

But still it was a good movie. Hope that the next movie would be better. Is it true that book 6 and 7 is just going to be one movie?

Reading

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

When I was young I wasn’t into reading books. When we would visit the mall, my sister would always ask for a pocket book and I would ask for a Marvel Comics.

My sister liked reading the super long stories that would take a week to finish, but on my part, I liked the drawings of the comic and sometimes, I don’t even read the story cause I was a bit lazy. Now that I am old, I see the importance of reading.

Here are some reasons why reading is important that I saw @ www.publishers.org

  • The development of early literacy skills through early experiences with books and stories is critically linked to a child’s success in learning to read.
  • Development of literacy is a continuous process that begins early in life and depends heavily on environmental influences.
  • Children who are read to from an early age are more successful at learning to read.
  • “…reading aloud to children is the single most important intervention for developing their literacy skills,” according to a 1985 study by the National Commission on Reading
  • Early reading experiences are now recognized as being of such importance that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that “pediatricians prescribe reading activities along with other instructions given to parents at the time of well-child visits.” The President of the Academy, Dr. Robert E. Hannemann, stated: “We strongly recommend daily reading to children from six months of age.”

So don’t let your kids be like me. Make your kids interested in reading. Start out with a storybook. Read the stories to them. Make it fun, act the characters with matching voice change. Make it a habit before going to sleep. If all goes well, your kid would be the one asking you to read them a story, like my son Kyle.

REWARDS

Monday, July 16th, 2007

This week is Kyle’s periodical exams. So in order to give him determination in studying, I offer him some kind of reward after studying, like playing playstation, buying toys, going to Jollibee, etc. But it made me think, what will happen if Kyle is so used to having rewards and starts expecting that he should receive something first before doing a task?

When I was young I was also receiving some kind of reward in order to have good grades. Right now Kyle is fine with just playing playstation, but I don’t know up to when that satisfaction with playing playstation will last. When he is older, he might ask for something that I can’t provide. With the post of mommyness, it seems that we are both concerned with this issue.

So now, I need to explain to Kyle that rewards are not just toys or playing playstation, true reward is self-achievement. It might take a long time to let him understand that, but that’s going to be our achievement for raising an understanding child.

Here’s a picture of Kyle (nothing related with this post) in a mirror with mama and papa.

What Mobile Phone to choose???

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

I know that this blog is for my “SON”, but I have a problem that I want to post here. Maybe it would still be related since I am also a “SON” to my mother. :)

The problem is, I need to get my Mom a mobile phone but I can’t decide on what to get. One thing that I’m sure is, I want my Mom to try a Sony Ericsson phone instead of a Nokia brand.

Here are 2 phones that I’m currently looking at, based on its appearance, performance and also the price.

First is the K610i. It has a 2 megapixel camera to capture quality images, but it doesn’t have a cover to protect the lens and a light for taking pictures at dark areas. Phone is slimmer compared to the K750i and has 3g capabilities, but I think my mom won’t be able to use that feature anyway.

Next is the K750i

Phone has a cover for its 2 megapixel camera at the same time it has a light function. Cheaper than the K610i so I would be able to save some money. Downside is it uses a joystick to navigate it’s menu and my mom is not used to using a joystick.

Hmmmmm, what will I choose???

Transformers Toy

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Every time we visit a mall, Kyle always asks to go to Toys r Us, cause it has been a habit of getting 1 hotwheels toy every visit. But the last time we were at Toys r Us, it was not the usual hotwheels cause in front of the store there was a big Transformers section that you couldn’t miss. So of course Kyle pulled me to the Transformers section and asked to buy one instead. I tried to convince Kyle to choose a simple one, but unfortunately he didn’t. When he showed me the one he chose, I was a bit interested with the toy also. Cause it was the same robot that I had when I was a kid.

The only difference is my toy is the truck version and his is the Racing car version.

The toy had 2 versions, one is the racing car and the other is the truck version same as Optimus Prime. In the cartoon movie of Transformers, Hot Rod (the toy) changed into a truck after the matrix of leadership was passed to him.

Here’s a video clip of Hot rod changing to Rodimus Prime.

ABCDEF…………..G

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Saying the letters might look simple, but it isn’t if it’s a 4 year old doing it and at the same time It’s my son. It feels something special and a bit of an achievement for us parents when your child shows you something that he/she has learned.

Cause at first it was really hard for my son just to memorize the ABC song. Now, Kyle can now read letters. Both capital and small letters. :)

I remember teaching Kyle the alphabets, at first it was from A to G and he always forgets the letter G. I really can’t remember how my Mom taught me the alphabets, but now I know how she felt when she was teaching me when I was a kid.

Teaching a kid really takes a lot of patience, which I don’t have. Just keep going and going until your kid gets it. It’s a learning experience, for the kid and to the parents as well.

Here’s a video of Kyle showing off the alphabets. Thanks
