As promised, my review on the movie.:P

I watched Twilight with some of my friends over the weekend. I’m not really a fan of the series (haven’t even read one of the books. Sorry, Steffi :P), but I went with them since it’ll be the first time we’ve seen each other in a while.

406px-Twilightpostermedium For me, the movie was fine. It wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either, and I wouldn’t go and watch it again - once is enough, thanks. I guess my major criticism is that the movie was too choppy: things were happening way too fast that you’d be weirded out be the progression if you haven’t read the books (which I haven’t). Also, I hated the makeup. I seriously hate the way they made Robert Pattinson look like. The other vampires didn’t have that thick eyeliner under their eyes. His are there. They’re the first things you see when you look at him. The picture up there doesn’t show it, but his "sleepless" look is awful. The black stuff is so thick you can almost see the flecks. I seriously hope they ease up on the makeup in the next movie. And why is Bella paler than the vampires? I heard she’s supposed to be albino, but she’s got blood flowing through her system, unlike the undead. Don’t believe the poster: she’s definitely paler than Edward. Bella in the hospital also seemed bratty. "Don’t ever say that!" I was like, "Huh? What’s that about?"

I actually like Robert Pattinson in the movie, I don’t understand the complaints about his role. I suspect the makeup had a lot to do with the critics, but his performance was alright. The science class scene with him looking like he was about to barf was just strange though, and his stalking skills were more than a little feaky, but I suppose that had to do with direction too. My favorites have got to be Alice (especially during the baseball scene!) and Jasper though. No one can pull off the constipated look like Jasper can.XD Emmet was ok, there wasn’t that much seen of him. My friends and I thought the girl who played Victoria should’ve swapped with the one who acted as Rosalie, but that’s just us. Carlisle’s hair was ridiculous (but so was Jasper’s :P) and Esme was funny and sweet. Jacob was pretty cool too, even though he didn’t have that many scenes.

My criticism about it isn’t so much about the movie as it is about the story itself. Growing up watching Buffy and later Charmed and Angel, and reading stuff involving vampires (I’ve browsed through Anne Rice books, but haven’t really actually read through one), my definition of vampire is already established: bloodsuckers who pretty much go poof if sunlight hits them. I honestly don’t understand why they sparkle in Stephenie Meyer’s world. Seriously, I don’t. None of the vampire myths that I’ve read have mentioned that, and then suddenly, "Hey, lookie the vampire! He sparkles and shimmers!" Eh? Sure, she probably did that to veer away from the "typical" vampire myths, but to make them sparkle is just strange. There’s also that deal about the ability of the vampires. Vampires’ strength are dependent on how long they have existed as vampires, so why did it seem like they were all on equal ground there? Carlisle should’ve been the most powerful, followed by Edward, then Esme, and so on. It’s cool that they have "additional" powers, but I felt that they missed out on the ones that should’ve been given to them. Also, what’s with the idea of Bella being the perfect bait? I can’t help but wonder how lovely her blood smells like for everyone to chase after her.x_x

I know, I know, I’m probably being unfair since I’m giving a litany of complaints without having read the book yet, but still… I don’t know. Maybe I’ll read it sometime, but it’s not my priority right now. It just doesn’t have that much appeal for me.

I’m thinking Twilight fans who read this will probably want my blood after.:P Don’t kill me!
