As promised, I’m going to post about what happened in the New Year. First, a lady who was hanging Hello Kitty lanterns like this for the new year suddenly grabbed me and then put some thread on my head. Obviously, I struggled, and I think I startled her, because she suddenly shrieked and then tossed me! Of all the nerve! When she calmed herself down, though, she apologized. Apparently, she thought I was one of the lanterns, and that’s why she did that. I forgave her. It wasn’t her fault, I suppose, even if I didn’t really look like a floating lamp thing (at least, I don’t think so. Do I?:-/) Anyway, as I was trying to compose myself, my sister grabbed me and told me that the festivities were about to start! I was already conspicuous, being all yellow on a crowd of red (which Kitty seems to take such joy in), so I didn’t want to be even more noticed. So I hurried, with the thread on my head and all, and proceeded to go by the window, where Kitty was already waving at the crowd. I was about to start waving, when someone grabbed my head… again! The next thing I knew, I was free-falling down to the crowd who were waiting for the… ampao, I think that’s what they call those little red envelopes with goodies in them. Eeek! Who wouldn’t get scared? I realized something though: even in China, they thought I was Kitty! They were pointing and giggling, and they caught me and I got carried by the people (I felt like a rock star!) Anyway, I let them carry me (I think I even took a catnap while I was moving, heehee!) I felt safe, and then this happened… Double eek! Apparently, one of the Chinese new year traditions is the dragon dance, where a huge dragon chases after this golden ball. Anyway, some people from the crowd that I would be a great golden ball, because I found myself being tossed around while trying to avoid the dragon. It’s not real of course, but it was still scary! If you look closely, you can even see the thread still attached on my head. If I had a mouth, I would probably look like :O all throughout that experience! I don’t think I can attend a Chinese new year celebration for a while after this… What’s funny though is that I was only a little surprised that it happened. I guess I’m already resigned to the fact that I’m always going to get involved in some mess or the other.@_@ Oh yeah, if you’re wondering how I came to have pictures of the sequence of the events, well… Kitty took them. She seems to think it’s funny that her one and only sister got tossed around the entire day.@_@ It was one of those times that I’m thankful I’m a cat, because every time I fell, I landed on my feet instead of my head. Small consolation, but it’s still something that I have.
It was… very different. Eventful would be the word. Well, actually, more like… It was a disaster for me!
