Valentine’s Day ideas?

Monday, February 11th, 2008

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I bet many of us are fussing over what to do for our loved ones. Grand gestures? Simple tokens? Well here’s a small list of tips to make that day a little sweeter!

© Create your own Valentine’s Day card. Compose a poem or an expression of love that expresses your personality.

© Create a “recollection collection” scrapbook filled with favorite photographs , love letters, keepsakes from special occasions, and cherished mementos.

© Make a CD of your favorite songs as a couple including love songs that you both enjoy listening to. Buy some romantic CDs, classic videos or DVDs and wrap them all together with red ribbon.

© Jewelry is always a favorite. For the woman in your life, buy a heart-shaped locket and put a picture of yourself in it. Personalize the locket with your loved one’s initials so she’ll have something to wear that’s hers alone. Package it in a heart-shaped box or tied to fresh flowers. For your man, a good choice is the classic sterling silver ID bracelet or cuff links with his name or initials custom-engraved.

© Give silk or glass flowers, which will last forever. If your beloved has a green thumb, give a flowering plant to put in the garden to enjoy year after year.

© Prepare your loved one’s favorite dinner and serve it on a romantically set table and dine by candlelight on Valentine’s Day. For the sweetheart with a sweet tooth, make a decadent dessert such as a chocolate fondue with melted chocolate mixed with a touch of heavy cream, and serve it with fruit or cookies.

If you don’t find anything that interests you, just remember this simple rule: It’s better that you give a simple gift that you know will mean a lot to that someone, than give an expensive gift that doesn’t really feel special. Don’t just go with what everyone else is giving, go personal and make sure that that person knows it’s especially for them, from your heart! ©

Edible Spiders, anyone?

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

It’s almost Halloween, and Babsiluv has a happy post for us called “Halloween Recipe and Safety Tips for Animals.”

She shares with us a simple recipe on how to make “Spooky Edible Spiders”. I for one, am very intrigued, so I might try this myself. I don’t think you can go wrong with the ingredients either, chocolate and marshmallows? Yum! :)

She also shares a link regarding animal safety, as many people like to get their pets into the trick-or-treating fun. Safety first, for your pets and for you as well! Only about a week to go before Halloween, hope I get to read about your happy Halloween experiences :)

Steps to a Happier Workday

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Whether it’s work or school, we’re bound to experience stressful times. It may be pressure from tasks, from people, or just a generally stressful environment. And often we feel weighed down by these things, feeling as if we need to get away from our office if we ever want to feel happy.

But did you know that according to studies by Positive Psychology researchers, our circumstances do not play as big a part in our happiness as we think!

…one’s happiness level is determined partly by a genetic baseline or set point (50%), partly by circumstances (10%), and partly by intentional activity (40%).

In other words, that huge 40% chunk is actually something that we have control of!

Having said that, here are some things that you can use to bring back the happiness into your workday, or whatever situation you may be in.

1. Pay attention to the good things, large and small. This doesn’t mean that we have to ignore the bad things, just give more attention to the good ones! Though we notice the bad things more easily, we should really be thankful for the many many good things we have.

2. Pay attention to bad things that are avoided. Even if something bad happens, be grateful about the worse things that could’ve happened but didn’t!

3. Practice downward comparisons. Basically, just learn to reflect on the situation of those who have it worse than you.

4. Establish regular times to focus on being grateful. Believe it or not, gratitude is something that can be practiced. You could even keep a journal of things to be grateful for!

5. When facing a loss or a difficult task or situation, simply think of the benefits you could get from getting through it when you do. Remember, trials and how you handle them can build your character.

6. Elicit and reinforce gratitude in the people around you. If you’ve noticed that negative attitudes are contagious, well so are positive ones. Sometimes people just need someone to tell them that things aren’t as bad as they seem. :)

Happiness is a Journey

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Times are pretty rough, almost everywhere you go. A lot of people have put their trust in their goals, thinking “If only I had this or that, I’d be happy.” They spend their time and effort all for that idea, and may even spend their entire lives trying to get things they think will make them happy.

I found this very inspiring post called “Happiness is a journey” by Sibyl. I’m sure most if not all of you will find something to ponder on in her post:

Stop waiting until the weekend, when you can party or let loose, until summer, spring, fall or winter, until you find the right person and get married, until you die, until your born again, to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

She talks about how happiness is not about getting or accomplishing something, although those things do make us happy. To her, happiness is really a choice we have to make, enjoying the trip more than the destination.

Visit her blog to see the rest of her entry, and don’t forget to welcome her as she’s new to the Sanrio Town blogs! :)

Beat the Rainy Day Blues

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Go to Brain Freeze

Have you noticed any changes in your mood when the rainy season comes? Notice how some of us just prefer to sit around, we walk slower, talk slower, and don’t feel like joking around all that much?

Well our featured happy blogger today is Shadowcat13 and her blog called Brain Freeze. In her post called “Rainy Days = :( “, she talks about how the rain clouds have been affecting her mood:

It’s been raining pretty hard here these past days.:( The weather’s making me more than just a little depressed, even if there’s not really no reason to be like that.

Last night on a news report, though, I finally found the reason why we get sad and depressed when the gray clouds roll in (and it’s not because they seem to be crying)…

She mentions what is called “Typhoon Affective Disorder”, and gives us some useful and practical tips on how to beat the blues brought in by the cloudy days. Despite her mood, she still found time to share with us what to do when these blues kick in. Be sure to visit her blog to find out more about what this happy blogger does to stay happy! :)

Be A Kid Again

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Have you ever sat down and wondered why you’ve inexplicably tired, or why things that you thought would make you happy don’t seem to do the trick? Chances are you’re complicating things too much, and you’ve lost touch with the kid in you that’s happy just running around with the family pet.

Now, I’m sure many of you are familiar with this list. These are fairly simple pointers, but it’s little things like these that we often take for granted. They won’t solve our problems, but they’ll sure make you feel happy and make you feel like you don’t need to worry so much.

- Dot all your “i”s with smiley faces.
- Sing into your hairbrush.
- Grow a milk mustache.
- Read the funnies; throw the rest of the paper away.
- Dunk your cookies.
- Step carefully over sidewalk cracks.
- Try to get someone to trade you a better sandwich.
- Give someone a hug around the neck.
- Blow the wrapper off a straw.
- Refuse to eat crusts.
- Make a face the next time somebody tells you “No.”
- Ask “Why?” a lot.
- Have someone read you a story.
- Wear your favorite shirt with your favorite pants even if they don’t match.
- Eat dessert first.
- Say “duh” when stuff is obvious.
- Put an orange slice in your mouth, peel side out, and smile at people.
- Innocently say your prayers.
- Ride a roller coaster two times in a row.
- Run through the sprinkler with all your clothes on.
- Lick all the cream out of an Oreo before you eat the cookie part.
- Eat just the chocolate stripe out of your Neapolitan ice cream.
- Start thinking now about what you want for your next birthday.
- Lie on your back in a field and look at pictures in the clouds.

So go out and try them, I hope they really work for you. Even if you don’t follow this list, just remember to always appreciate the little things in life. Be a kid again!

i could never imagine myself with any other family that what i have now..
i am thankful that God gave me a good life..a bearable life that is guided by His word..

I’m so blessed to be a servant of God..its like having all you need, and sometimes the things that you want..without even thinking about it..^_^

To be happy for others even after a breakup

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Featured blogger: Zhenxiu

Time will heal my wound… and i will open up to others as times goes by…“

I was reading random Sanriotown blogs yesterday and I came across someone’s blog who manages to feel happy for others ever after a heartbreak.

In one of her recent posts, Zhenxiu congratulates her friend who is finally getting married. In her blog, she says:

her beloved bf finally propose to her last week… so happy for them…

In her latest entry, she also extends her warm felicitations to her ex-boyfriend on his convocation. Zhensiu shares intimately:

I wan to congrats my ex also… The ex who i have been crying about ever since i have tHis blog…. The ex who i love alot even till Now… even till he ask me nOt to bother hIm anymore… even till he ask me Not to msg hIm anymore even till he told me he got a new sweet gf… But still congrats to hIm for his convocation on sunday….

But still i like to give hIm my blessing… tot he is nOt mine forever… But still i wish that he will be forever happy down the road… with his family and his gf…

“all the best from my heart…”

Here are several ways on how to cope with a break-up:
1. The 24 Hour Mope. Give yourself time to mourn your loss. Cry it out.
2. Reconnect With Loved Ones. Spending time with your loved ones will make you feel that you are still loved, even if you don’t have a significant other. Family and friends may also give you advice and a listening ear.
3. Partake in Your Passions. Busy yourself with a hobby or the things you wanted to do but was not able to do because you lacked free time. Now is the time to enjoy your passions.
4. Extract Emotions. If you get the urge to contact your ex, do not contact him/her. Instead, write your feelings in a letter and throw it or burn it (safely). You can also resort to blogging, keeping a diary or journal, or playing a port as a therapy.
5. Erase Memories. To help you recover, it may help if you keep all your treasured keepsakes and memories in a box and keep it somewhere. It will not help to see them frequently. It will only remind you of the past.

Take it slow. Healing takes time. Realize your true value. Let go and move on. And surely, at the end of it all, you can find your happiness.
