Finally I’ll be posting an original shot of mine. It’s one o my favorite subject again: candles.
I took this during the birthday party of a friend of mine. I also have a shot where the candles were lighted, but it didn’t look as good to me as this does.
I like this because of the lighting. Considering that this was taken during the night, with the only source of light a fluorescent lamp, I like how this turned out.

I love candle smoke. I don’t know why, but I do. Unlike the other kinds of smoke that are just disgusting, there’s something almost fragrant about it, even if the candles are not scented. One thing that I like about it is that it is fleeting: just when you realize there’s this curl of smoke appearing after you extinguish the candle, it disappears.
I like just about every element of this picture. I initially thought it was a black-and white image, until I took a closer look at the candle and the wick, and I realized it wasn’t. Really nice job on the lighting. I also like the smoke, especially because it’s bigger than I’d expect candle smoke to be.
To the photographer of this shot, kudos to you. Very lovely image.

My teacher said something yesterday that struck me.
The class was on counseling, and our teacher was discussing how we will be able to relate with our future clients, and how we’ll be able to help them deal with it.
A lot of people are hurting in the world right now, whether it be obvious or not. What causes the pain in most cases are the others around them. Maybe those people did not mean to hurt someone, or maybe they did, but all the same, it leaves one broken, shattered, and in pain. Those who have been hurt in the past know what I’m talking about. These are the people who need healing more than anything.
At first, I thought healing would mean that they needed time alone for them to think about their lives and how they would be able to move on. My teacher, however, said something that was very poignant.
“The elixir is also in the poison.”
People, the very same beings who could hurt us, could also be those who could lead to our healing. The ones who are capable of holding that figurative sword to stab us with are also the ones who could hold our hands and walk with us to help us recover.
It’s such a paradox, really. I never really thought about it, but it rings true. When people get hurt, a small part of them retreats from people and lead to their having trust issues. In a way, they become scared of people. Yet individuals, who may or may not be the same ones who caused that person to be hurt, are also capable of bringing healing to the person, by their gentleness, kindness, and love. Above all these, it’s God who causes these to happen. He allows people to reach out to those in need, and to help them heal. Isaiah 61:1-3 says,
1The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion.
It seems so simple, but it’s so profound at the same time. To heal, you have to allow yourself to be vulnerable. To be healed, you have to let others see your brokenness. You have to accept that change needs to happen in your life, and once you do, you have to allow healing to happen and not to hide from the world.

Another one of the non-landscape photos that I like.
I like the variety of colors here, especially because they’re not too overpowering. You can see each individual color without these fighting for attention from each other. I also like how these were taken as they were, meaning, this is the way these were already arranged.
I have this urge to rearrange the pastels, not to the point that I’d drive the one who arranged it to insanity, but just because I want to see the colors all mixed together. But of course, I can’t do that, because this is just a picture.

This is another one of those shots that comes as a pleasant surprise for me because these have not been touched with a photoediting program. The light and shadows merge perfectly to create this amazing shot. I love how the sun is right smack behind the lighthouse (you can see the light emanating from there), and how it creates clarity in the middle section of the photo, so much so that you can see the form of the trees growing there. I also like how the edges are so completely dark. It gives the definition of the “lighthouse” a totally different meaning.
It’s definitely another one of those surreal shots that you’re not sure are quite real but you know in your mind that these are.

I love photographs with birds in flight, because I don’t know how they are able to accomplish this. This photo’s nice, isn’t it? What I like the most is that the birds are very clear in this image, in contrast to the bright lighting of the shot. I wonder if this photo’s been re-touched using a photoediting program.

Photographs like this make me reminisce for some reason. It’s odd, because I don’t really remember seeing a sidewalk like this when I was younger. Still, there’s something very sentimental about the shot. Maybe it’s the almost sepia quality of it (because of the lighting). Maybe it’s the sense that the neighborhood where this shot was taken is quiet, and I did come from an idyllic town. I really don’t know. I do know that it reminds me of when I was a kid, when I’d play with my family and friends outdoors. It’s a nice feeling.:) It also makes me want to live in a neighborhood like this.
What I like the most about this shot is definitely the lighting. I love how the light creates a nice warm, fuzzy effect in the middle of the picture, but the edges left dark. Far from making it appear mysterious, it makes the shot more welcoming, for some reason.

I love drama shots with Scrabble tiles. They just seem to lend more dignity and meaning when spelled out like that.
Cheesy moment: I don’t think LOVE is worth only 14 points though. Get all the tiles available for Scrabble, use all 7 tiles for each turn, and put them on double- and triple-word blocks (no matter how incredible that is), and it still won’t equate to what love means.

… Or not.
This photo blew me away. I thought this was a CGI image, or a painting at least. Apparently, this was a photograph taken by Dario Dzimbeg, a photgrapher from Croatia. This image was taken of an Irish garden. I really like how this image looks like, because it doesn’t seem to be of this world. You can almost imagine unicorns, centaurs, and fauns prancing about in the garden.
Or maybe I’m still a fan of Fantasia after all these years.

I like the simplicity of the shot, but more so because of the powerful emotions these evoke. As the label states, these are from Hurricane Katrina. I don’t think I don’t need to expound on that tragedy, because Just about everyone everywhere know what happened then. Merging that thought with the image of this spoon and fork makes it a rich image.
This image is what I was aiming for when I shot this picture of the can on the beach.
