Candles

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Finally I’ll be posting an original shot of mine. It’s one o my favorite subject again: candles.

I took this during the birthday party of a friend of mine. I also have a shot where the candles were lighted, but it didn’t look as good to me as this does.

I like this because of the lighting. Considering that this was taken during the night, with the only source of light a fluorescent lamp, I like how this turned out.

Doves

Monday, January 14th, 2008

This shot reminds me of my sister’s wedding last year. I don’t know if they also follow this in other countries, but here, a couple of doves are released during the reception (I don’t know for what reason, though).

Anyway, these are different from the doves we have now. These are pretty elegant, while our “pets” are now very plump, resembling little hens more than the elegant birds they’re known for.

Take a look at this:

They’re thinner here than they are now. Still, their being a bit fat is actually pretty cute.:)

Christmas Trees

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

This picture gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling that I always attach to Christmas. I love how the lights, while giving sparkle to the shot, appears “semi-matted,” in that it doesn’t overwhelm any part of the picture but instead highlights it, even the gifts, even if these are shown in darker lighting.

I hope there’s no one here on Sanrio town who’s feeling like a scrooge. Christmas should be a season for celebrating, not bitterness.:)

More Bougainvillea

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

I seem to be fascinated with bouganvillea, eh? Actually, this is from our other house. Imagine this overhead, with some of the “blossoms” falling on your head as you step out, and you get a glimpse on what happens sometimes when we leave the house. This hangs right over our door, providing a natural shade when we go outside. The light blue thing that you see on the right side is actually part of the garage roof.

If you notice, some parts of the image is a bit messy. I’m sorry about that. I actually had to edit this quite a bit, because there were a lot of things that got included in the shot that serve as, well, hindrances. I’ve cleaned it up a lot, but it’s not really quite smooth yet.

Flowers

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Here is another plant my mom has. I don’t really know what these flowers are, so if there’s anyone here who can identify what these are, I’ll be very grateful.:)

Aren’t they nice though? The color’s very different, it’s not quite white, not quite yellow, and not quite green, all at the same time. If that’s not enough, it has tinges of pink on the outer portions, which make these very interesting.

Bougainvillea

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Here is the kind of bougainvillea that’s more common here in the country. This is also one of my mom’s plants. She actually has a bunch of these in different colors, as you can see below:

Edit: This photo was a bit edited because the first one was too dark. Anyway, these are her bougainvilleas (you can see the red ones I posted in my last entry). The bracts really have a variety of colors, and it’s really quite pretty seeing these together. It’s also great when, after having reached a bit of height, the bracts slowly fall because of the wind, and a shower of it would fall on you. It’s almost like how the peach blossoms fall when you’re in Japan.

Red Bougainvillea

Monday, November 19th, 2007

There are a lot of bougainvilleas here in the country, but the most common colors that you would see are the pink, white, and light violet/lilac ones. That’s why it came as such a surprise when I went home to the province for a short vacation and I saw that my mom had these bright red ones planted. They’re really pretty, and they really pop out, maybe because people aren’t really used to seeing them in this color. I took this shot just so I can compare it with bougainvilleas with other colors (I’ll try and post some here).

I actually like this shot, because there’s an illusion of depth in it, the background being slightly blurred even without any adjustments with the camera.

Short trivia for you: did you know that the colorful parts of the bougainvillea aren’t really petals, but are in fact called bracts, which are specialized leaves. The actual flowers are the small white ones usually surrounded by these.

Orchid

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

My mom took this photo of one of her orchids. I forget right now what they’re called, but if I do remember, I’ll post it here.

She had a lot of orchids back then, but there was a time when storms were in the country practically once every two weeks, and the plants she took care of died.:( We’re pretty happy that these are blooming again. They’re not as many yet as they were before, but at least we have some that look pretty healthy and pretty.:)

Lily Ponds

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Usually here in the country, whenever there’s a still body of water around, you’d almost expect it to, well, smell. This one doesn’t though. I don’t know if it’s because of the lily fronds, but it’s still pretty good, whichever way. I was going to take this shot minus the wall at the bottom of this shot, but then, I would have fallen in the water if I tried to get it out of the screen, and I don’t really want to photoshop my pictures as much as possible. Still, I like it, maybe because this was the first (and only) time I’ve seen a pond with this many lilies on it.

Ringu?

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

No, this isn’t the well where the half-human, half-goblin monster Sadako comes out from in the Japanese horror film Ringu. Like the pictures I’ve posted before this, this stone well is a remnant of the Spanish occupation in the country. I wasn’t able to get a closer look to see if it still has water, though.
