Scrabble Tiles

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

I love drama shots with Scrabble tiles. They just seem to lend more dignity and meaning when spelled out like that.

Cheesy moment: I don’t think LOVE is worth only 14 points though. Get all the tiles available for Scrabble, use all 7 tiles for each turn, and put them on double- and triple-word blocks (no matter how incredible that is), and it still won’t equate to what love means.

Game Landscape

… Or not.

This photo blew me away. I thought this was a CGI image, or a painting at least. Apparently, this was a photograph taken by Dario Dzimbeg, a photgrapher from Croatia. This image was taken of an Irish garden. I really like how this image looks like, because it doesn’t seem to be of this world. You can almost imagine unicorns, centaurs, and fauns prancing about in the garden.

Or maybe I’m still a fan of Fantasia after all these years.

Silverware

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I like the simplicity of the shot, but more so because of the powerful emotions these evoke. As the label states, these are from Hurricane Katrina. I don’t think I don’t need to expound on that tragedy, because Just about everyone everywhere know what happened then. Merging that thought with the image of this spoon and fork makes it a rich image.

This image is what I was aiming for when I shot this picture of the can on the beach.

Clouds on a Building

Monday, February 18th, 2008

It’s really great to see beautiful shots like this, especially when you don’t expect to stumble upon it. I really love how the building’s glass windows reflected the clouds so as to provide the continuity with the sky. The breaks between the clouds and the sky are so small that these are practically negligible, and even lend it some charm. One more thing that I like about it is that instead of blocking the view as structures are wont to do, this highlights it instead. In some way, it even resembles a bizarre animated rendering of the sky , but we know for sure that this is the real deal.

Wave

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Here’s a good picture I found on Wikipedia (which was a surprise for me). It’s such a strong image for me, maybe because it’s such a paradox: on one side, the surf is crashing, with the white foam produced as a result. On the other side is calm blue, as though there’s nothing different going on. What makes it even more spectacular is the clarity of the shot, so much that you can actually see the minute drops flying off as a result of the impact. You can practically see all the directions taken by every part of the wave, particularly the curl, where most of the things are happening in.

Tree

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

It’s funny how things work. I was looking for a picture of a leafless tree to post on my blog (it fits my current mood). Then I came upon this picture:

This picture violates a lot of rules in my head when it comes to tree photography. In most instances, I stick to the rule of the third, preferring pictures with the subjects not occupying the majority of the screen. I like those that have the focus of the picture off on one side, not because it can be ignored, but because it can’t - there’s a quiet power that the subject has that makes one go and have another look at it, even if it’s just a tiny part of the picture. It doesn’t help that bright pictures aren’t really the kind I want to see right now, I’m in the mood for gloomy photos right now, and that’s why I was looking for leafless trees. This picture defied all that - and I find that I don’t care one bit. I love this picture. It’s the kind that you see, and you would think things are going to be alright. Silly, to see that in a photo of a tree, but it’s what comes to me. Maybe it’s because the tree shows resilience, having reached a certain age and exposed to the elements, yet remains rooted. Maybe it’s the light streaming in the background. Maybe it’s the shading. I don’t really know, but it doesn’t matter.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Happy Chinese new year, everyone! As my way of greeting you, here’s a picture I found on the net, featuring a beautiful picture of the Hong Kong shoreline a few yars back as the people there celebrated new year.

Kite

Monday, February 4th, 2008

It’s strange, but I seem to be reminiscing a lot these days for some odd reason. Another memory that popped in my head would be kite-flying.

I never actually learned how to fly a kite, actually. I tried to, with my brother, but I just couldn’t seem to make mine get caught in the wind. It would, but only for a few feet, and then it would tumble down to the ground. I do remember watching people who flew kites by the beach though. They go there usually during summer or around October, and they’d decorate the skies with colorful things made of wood, paper, and plastic. It’s such a simple joy to watch.

Do people still fly kites these days? It would be sad that they don’t, just because it seems people are slowly looking for bigger and brighter things to have fun with instead of enjoying the simple joys of life.

Wish

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

When we were kids, whenever we see dandelion seeds, we’d chase after these. When we catch at least one of these, we’d make a wish and then blow on it to make it fly again. If the wind catches it and carries it off, we believed that our wish would come true. If it doesn’t, well, there’s always the next dandelion seed or star to wish upon again.

Seeing this picture reminds me of the innocence of children. Who else would believe that a seed has the capacity to bring with it a child’s wish, let alone making it come true? It’s simply amazing how much we can believe on things as kids. Sometimes, it makes me think, though. Is it better to grow up and see the harsh reality of the world, or be a perpetual child and still believe on things that others might see as impossible?

Interior Design

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Has anyone of you tried to do interior decoration? I was browsing around to look for pictures to post here, and I found this picture:

Pretty, right? What I found more interesting, though, is that someone actually made a color palette to recreate this in your home.

Isn’t it awesome? One can actually see how these colors translate as interpretations of a person’s room. Reminds me of the “Dress My Nest” TV show with Thom Filicia.

Check out other designs and palette interpretations by clicking here.
