Birds

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I love photographs with birds in flight, because I don’t know how they are able to accomplish this. This photo’s nice, isn’t it? What I like the most is that the birds are very clear in this image, in contrast to the bright lighting of the shot. I wonder if this photo’s been re-touched using a photoediting program.

Sidewalk

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Photographs like this make me reminisce for some reason. It’s odd, because I don’t really remember seeing a sidewalk like this when I was younger. Still, there’s something very sentimental about the shot. Maybe it’s the almost sepia quality of it (because of the lighting). Maybe it’s the sense that the neighborhood where this shot was taken is quiet, and I did come from an idyllic town. I really don’t know. I do know that it reminds me of when I was a kid, when I’d play with my family and friends outdoors. It’s a nice feeling.:) It also makes me want to live in a neighborhood like this.

What I like the most about this shot is definitely the lighting. I love how the light creates a nice warm, fuzzy effect in the middle of the picture, but the edges left dark. Far from making it appear mysterious, it makes the shot more welcoming, for some reason.

Scrabble Tiles

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

I love drama shots with Scrabble tiles. They just seem to lend more dignity and meaning when spelled out like that.

Cheesy moment: I don’t think LOVE is worth only 14 points though. Get all the tiles available for Scrabble, use all 7 tiles for each turn, and put them on double- and triple-word blocks (no matter how incredible that is), and it still won’t equate to what love means.

… Or not.

This photo blew me away. I thought this was a CGI image, or a painting at least. Apparently, this was a photograph taken by Dario Dzimbeg, a photgrapher from Croatia. This image was taken of an Irish garden. I really like how this image looks like, because it doesn’t seem to be of this world. You can almost imagine unicorns, centaurs, and fauns prancing about in the garden.

Or maybe I’m still a fan of Fantasia after all these years.

Silverware

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I like the simplicity of the shot, but more so because of the powerful emotions these evoke. As the label states, these are from Hurricane Katrina. I don’t think I don’t need to expound on that tragedy, because Just about everyone everywhere know what happened then. Merging that thought with the image of this spoon and fork makes it a rich image.

This image is what I was aiming for when I shot this picture of the can on the beach.

Quotable Quote

If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. - Dolly Parton

Words of wisdom from the country singer. Can’t say I expected it (no offense to her and to her fans), but it’s actually good food for thought. We’re always wishing that things would turn out right, but sometimes, that’s not always the case. As they say, “It has to get worse before it gets better.” It’s not being masochistic, not at all, but it’s more like we can’t always expect things to turn up roses. There will come times when life would stink, even to the point that you’ll feel that that is the absolutely worst day of your life, but don’t despair. The best you could do is to brace yourself from the pain, and move on. It’s not worth it to dwell on your misery, because you’ll just end up making yourself feel worse. Keep your head up, and don’t let your situation defeat you. In the end, when you look back on what you’ve gone through, you’ll realize that it’s worth it, because you’ve grown into a strong person.

Besides, He’s worth it in the end, right? Most definitely.

Clouds on a Building

Monday, February 18th, 2008

It’s really great to see beautiful shots like this, especially when you don’t expect to stumble upon it. I really love how the building’s glass windows reflected the clouds so as to provide the continuity with the sky. The breaks between the clouds and the sky are so small that these are practically negligible, and even lend it some charm. One more thing that I like about it is that instead of blocking the view as structures are wont to do, this highlights it instead. In some way, it even resembles a bizarre animated rendering of the sky , but we know for sure that this is the real deal.

Valentine’s

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Here’s to hoping that you find the GB (God’s Best) in your life.:) It might not happen today, or anytime soon, but if it’s really meant for you to have that special someone, then it will happen.

For all the singles out there, don’t feel upset and just enjoy it as much as you take delight in your life.:)

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone.

Wave

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Here’s a good picture I found on Wikipedia (which was a surprise for me). It’s such a strong image for me, maybe because it’s such a paradox: on one side, the surf is crashing, with the white foam produced as a result. On the other side is calm blue, as though there’s nothing different going on. What makes it even more spectacular is the clarity of the shot, so much that you can actually see the minute drops flying off as a result of the impact. You can practically see all the directions taken by every part of the wave, particularly the curl, where most of the things are happening in.

Tree

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

It’s funny how things work. I was looking for a picture of a leafless tree to post on my blog (it fits my current mood). Then I came upon this picture:

This picture violates a lot of rules in my head when it comes to tree photography. In most instances, I stick to the rule of the third, preferring pictures with the subjects not occupying the majority of the screen. I like those that have the focus of the picture off on one side, not because it can be ignored, but because it can’t - there’s a quiet power that the subject has that makes one go and have another look at it, even if it’s just a tiny part of the picture. It doesn’t help that bright pictures aren’t really the kind I want to see right now, I’m in the mood for gloomy photos right now, and that’s why I was looking for leafless trees. This picture defied all that - and I find that I don’t care one bit. I love this picture. It’s the kind that you see, and you would think things are going to be alright. Silly, to see that in a photo of a tree, but it’s what comes to me. Maybe it’s because the tree shows resilience, having reached a certain age and exposed to the elements, yet remains rooted. Maybe it’s the light streaming in the background. Maybe it’s the shading. I don’t really know, but it doesn’t matter.
