Wish

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

When we were kids, whenever we see dandelion seeds, we’d chase after these. When we catch at least one of these, we’d make a wish and then blow on it to make it fly again. If the wind catches it and carries it off, we believed that our wish would come true. If it doesn’t, well, there’s always the next dandelion seed or star to wish upon again.

Seeing this picture reminds me of the innocence of children. Who else would believe that a seed has the capacity to bring with it a child’s wish, let alone making it come true? It’s simply amazing how much we can believe on things as kids. Sometimes, it makes me think, though. Is it better to grow up and see the harsh reality of the world, or be a perpetual child and still believe on things that others might see as impossible?

Interior Design

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Has anyone of you tried to do interior decoration? I was browsing around to look for pictures to post here, and I found this picture:

Pretty, right? What I found more interesting, though, is that someone actually made a color palette to recreate this in your home.

Isn’t it awesome? One can actually see how these colors translate as interpretations of a person’s room. Reminds me of the “Dress My Nest” TV show with Thom Filicia.

Check out other designs and palette interpretations by clicking here.

Leaves on the Lake

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I really love artsy shots. Part of the reason why I don’t like bright colors in photos is that I have this notion that you don’t need these to draw attention to what you took, much like in writing, where you don’t need to use “!!!”, bold fonts, and such devices to make people read what you wrote. Understated things draw me more, maybe because everyone else pays attention to the “loud” ones, and I don’t really like fighting with someone over something.

Here is a photo that’s a good example of understated beauty:

It’s simple, and has only a few elements, and yet there is something haunting about it. Instead of practically shouting at you to look at the picture, it draws you to it instead, and the more you look at it, the more you appreciate it.

Come to think of it, that’s how I see people too, and how I appreciate them more. It’s not about how much they appear, as it is the way that they present themselves, because it is only there that you get even just a glimpse of who they really are.

Hornet

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I never thought I’d see the day that I’d actually post an entry here that features a buzzing insect. I only know that if I actually tried to “clean out” the bug from the picture, it wouldn’t be as interesting as what it looks like right now.

I love the shade of the flower, even if it’s a kind I can’t identify. The way the violet merges with the blue at the tip is really pretty, because both seem to fuse and compete at the same time, resulting in the brilliance of the colors.

Nature’s Best Photography

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I was browsing through the Internet when I came upon this site. It’s apparently a prestigious photography contest, and the winners become included as part of “Nature’s Best Photography.” I couldn’t resist taking a peek at the 2007 winners. This picture’s one of my favorites:

I love the vibrant colors of this photograph, not only that of the main subject of the shot, but also the intentionally blurred background. What makes this shot special for me is that this was just taken at the backyard of the photographer - giving hope to aspiring photographers like me that we can do the same thing right at home.

Do check out the other awards winners.:) They’re all very special in their own way.

Footprints in the Sand

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Mary Stevenson

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from anguish,
sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints,
so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there has only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
The Lord replied,
“The years when you have seen only one set of footprints,
my child, is when I carried you.”

No explanations needed.

Blessed be Your Name

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Blessed be your name
In the land that is plentiful
Where the streams of abundance flow
Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name
When I’m found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out,
I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say…
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name

Blessed be your name
When the sun’s shining down on me
When the world’s all as it should be
Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering
Blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out,
I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say…
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, Blessed be your name

I don’t really know who released this song originally, but the Newsboys, Tree63, and Matt Redman have all released their versions of this. My favorite’s got to be Matt Redman’s because his is arranged as a rock song.

This is one of my favorite songs, and when we sang it during worship Tuesday night, I was filled in awe all over again. What I love the most about this are the lyrics, because they describe just about every situation we find ourselves in.

In the land that is plentiful… These are times when we feel as though luck is on our side, because everything seems to be going well, and we’re receiving so much - whether it be love, companionship, provisions, or anything else that we need, even want.

When I’m found in the desert place/Though I walk through the wilderness… For Christians, this would be our “dry periods.” This is the time in our life when we feel so oppressed, as though we’re fighting against the world, and we have no one on our side. For me, this is a harder situation to be in than to be going through suffering, because while you may not be going through any trials physically, there’s a heaviness in your heart that doesn’t seem to go away no matter what you do.

When the sun’s shining down on me… When we are happy and contented with our life. Everything is going well, and there doesn’t seem to be anything more that we would want.

On the road marked with suffering… This is the time of trials, when we really are going through difficulties, no matter how small or big these are. There are so many ways that we can be oppressed, and sometimes, these could happen simultaneously.

Now, you could say, “I can imagine being thankful when I’m happy, but when I’m miserable? No way!” You know what, that’s precisely the time when you should really turn to the Lord in thanksgiving, because that’s when He’s really working to purify you. Lots of people could go up to Him and be all thankful when their circumstances are well, but when things take a turn for the worse, they begin to blame Him for their misfortunes. Don’t do that, because those are the times when God is cleansing you of whatever is barring your relationship from Him - whether it be an excess of pride, of anger, of vanity, or whatever it may be that’s keeping you from enjoying a closer friendship with the Lord.

It’s really a valuable lesson I’ve learned over the years, to be thankful. It’s an acknowledgement that those things aren’t from you, but from a Higher Being, and that no matter how difficult our present circumstances might be, everything has a purpose and will work out in the end. We can take that opportunity to learn and be better people - or we can go and complain and grumble, and all we’ll end up accomplishing is annoying the people around us and being heavy-hearted and angry about what we’re going through.

Try it out yourself.:) It’s really something that would lighten your mood.

Butterfly

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Butterflies have got to be one of the sure signs that there was Someone who actually made this world, because they look that they have been designed on purpose. Not only are their colors so vivid and vibrant that they look that they have been painted, but their way of living is fascinating: their way of camouflage, their flight (imagine this: climbers have reported seeing some butterflies near the top of the peaks of some mountains), and how their communion with nature. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t be a fan of bugs, but butterflies are just fascinating. I’ve got some friends who are such huge fans of butterflies. I wouldn’t join them, but I can’t say I blame them.

Doves

Monday, January 14th, 2008

This shot reminds me of my sister’s wedding last year. I don’t know if they also follow this in other countries, but here, a couple of doves are released during the reception (I don’t know for what reason, though).

Anyway, these are different from the doves we have now. These are pretty elegant, while our “pets” are now very plump, resembling little hens more than the elegant birds they’re known for.

Take a look at this:

They’re thinner here than they are now. Still, their being a bit fat is actually pretty cute.:)

Scottish Castle

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

I’ve always wanted to travel to Europe (which hasn’t happened yet) to explore the castles, especially those in Scotland, Ireland, and the UK. Maybe it’s just my imagination running wild, but I want to visit one with the works: moats, trapdoors, suits of armor, all these stuff that have been shown in childhood cartoons. It’s a romantic notion, something that’s contrary to who I normally am, but daydreams may be allowed from time-to-time, I think.:)
