Snow

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Here is another picture that reminded me of a scene in a fantasy film/book. This time, this is reminiscent of movie “The Lion, The Witch, of the Wardrobe”, when Jaedis/the Ice Queen was still ruling over Narnia. There’s that surreal feel about the picture, as if you expect something to suddenly appear from behind one of the trees (not in a horror film way). It’s not precisely scary, but it gives me the feeling that there’s something mysterious that’s going to happen in that scene.

On a related note, “Prince Caspian” (the third book of the Chronicles of Narnia - although there might be some argument in that - and the second film of the latest Narnia francise) is set for release on 2008. Can’t wait!

May we never forget the true meaning of the season.

God bless you all.

Christmas Trees

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

This picture gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling that I always attach to Christmas. I love how the lights, while giving sparkle to the shot, appears “semi-matted,” in that it doesn’t overwhelm any part of the picture but instead highlights it, even the gifts, even if these are shown in darker lighting.

I hope there’s no one here on Sanrio town who’s feeling like a scrooge. Christmas should be a season for celebrating, not bitterness.:)

Black-and-White and Dew

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I think I’ve mentioned earlier that I’m not really a fan of black-and-white photographs. There are some, however, that really fascinates me. Case in point:

Isn’t it fascinating? The black-and-white adds to the beauty of the shot, which probably would not be as effective if it was in color. The color just adds to the ethereal feel of it, especially since the background of the image slowly fades to highlight the inner petals. You can even see practically every dew that is on its surface, giving it more dimension.

In terms of black-and-white images, I don’t really have anything against these. I do love a lot of them, but not all. After all, some just seem faded out, others look as though the photographer was trying a little too hard to make the shot dramatic. This one is just right, though.:)

Reflections

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

You know what makes me fascinated with the picture? The reflection of the trees and the sky on the water. I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems to be much more vivid and clearer than the real thing, or maybe it’s because of the created “frame” - the color of the sky adds contrast to the reds, greens, and oranges of the surrounding plants.

Blue Flowers

Monday, December 10th, 2007

One thing I love about the picture is how the blue flowers are accented here.

Blue isn’t really the most “flashy” color in the world, especially compared with red and pink (as can be seen in the front and back of the picture), but it’s really cool how it was made dominant on this shot. I don’t really know if this picture was edited (please click on it to view where it was seen), although, since it’s a Photography blog, I highly doubt it.

What do you think?

Trees

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

This is one of my “dream shots” - getting the silhouette of a many-branched tree as the sun sets/rises.

I actually love seeing trees that have really branched out, even the ones that can be described as twisted, in “real” life or photographs. The intertwining limbs are just really fascinating, and the bark of the tree, especially if it’s old, somewhat adds to its dignity, no matter how strange that might seem to be. These are the ones that I love sitting under, whether to read or just relax. There’s comfort on leaning on something that’s already there, as if you’re absorbing and sharing the history it had in its life.

More Bougainvillea

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

I seem to be fascinated with bouganvillea, eh? Actually, this is from our other house. Imagine this overhead, with some of the “blossoms” falling on your head as you step out, and you get a glimpse on what happens sometimes when we leave the house. This hangs right over our door, providing a natural shade when we go outside. The light blue thing that you see on the right side is actually part of the garage roof.

If you notice, some parts of the image is a bit messy. I’m sorry about that. I actually had to edit this quite a bit, because there were a lot of things that got included in the shot that serve as, well, hindrances. I’ve cleaned it up a lot, but it’s not really quite smooth yet.

Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

I have to say, I love this shot, because the colors are just surreal. I can’t even imagine this to be an actual photo taken without any photo editing magic done. It reminds me of sherbet  because of the color combination(orange and mint). I also like how the water appears, as though it serves as frosting.

Please click on the picture to check the original source of the picture. The photographer has a lot of amazing images stashed on his site, so I highly recommend that you check his site out.
