I’ve decided that I needed to catch up on my Macross Frontier reviews and thoughts. The subbers are currently on episode 21 so I have a lot of ground to cover.

There’s a lot of Valkyrie action on Episode 2, mostly on the part of Ozuma’s (Ranka’s older brother) own Valkyrie. His armored unit clearly is awesomeness!
He can be seen here locked in arms with a Vajra. How awesome can this get. Valkyries in the old series could barely do stuff like these.
Alto saves his first damsel in distress (who in this case would be Ranka). If I recall, the original and first Robotech/Macross early episodes was exactly like this. Rick Hunter saving Lynn Minmei.
Unfortunately more Vajra threaten the colony ships but Michel (Mikhail) comes to the rescue. His Valkyrie unit is specialized in long range engagements. He uses a specialized "sniper" unit Valkyrie.
Stuck in a place away from the threat, Alto is such a lucky guy being accompanied by 2 wonderful ladies. Don’t you think?
However, Ozama is injured in the skirmish and Ranka realizes for the first time that her brother hasn’t quit the Skull Squadron unit. This makes her break into tears and become quite hysterical.
Indeed Captain, your wound! Looks like finding the truth about Ranka upsets the Captain as well. Alto decides to join the SMS Skull Squadron in hopes of finding some answers himself.
Ranka decides to step it up a notch. Having heard encouragement from Sheryl and Alto, she decides to give it her all.
Well, Alto has begun his training with SMS and they’re really getting into it. They’re making him do stuff beyond his capacity and at the same time making it really hard for him. Lastly, giving him a make-over with some make-up in his sleep is just evil!
Ranka is doing fine as well. Her song was cute. It was sang by Lynn Minmei long ago. I like this version better. Seriously though, Ranka, stay off those bathing suits.
Alto passes his test in a supposed mock battle, but it turns out to be the real thing when some Vajra suddenly attacks them.
Finally, a Meltran (a female Zentraedi) affectionately named Klan-Klan makes her appearance. She’s real sexy and beautiful in her original size but really small and cute in her micronized form. I like her Queadlunn Rea (a modified version of the original Queadlunn Rou), which is a sort of a powered mecha suit for female Zentraedi officers. Her relationship with Mikhal seems lax at first but as the series progresses she makes her feelings for the guy clear but too late.
Thats it for this lenghly post on these episodes of Macross Frontier. I hope to catch up soon to where the subbers are currently stuck on.
