Tetsuwan Birdy Decode caught my eye because the art style reminded me of some other Anime titles that I have seem to have forgotten due to the fact that I have watched and seen a LOT of Anime titles in the past few years. In general, the Anime is about an Alien girl who’s an Investigator of sorts who hunts wanted criminals in the galaxy. It so happens that her next target flees to Earth so she goes undercover in the guise of a magazine model. However in one of her fights with the alien fugitive she accidentally kills a high school boy. In order to save this boy, she gathers his consciousness and places it inside her own body. So now they share a single body and can switch from being the Alien Girl and Earthling boy on a whim.  Hit the jump for a review of the first three episodes. Enjoy the intro by the way, love the song…

Episode 1

The scene starts off as "Birdy" (our heroine) is in her spaceship chasing down the Alien scum. Might I say that the use of CG animation with traditional animation is beautiful. Anyway, she boards the ship but the perps get away.

She then tracks them down to a backwater planet called Earth. So she goes under cover as a magazine model.

Photobucket

Living as a normal human, she’s not alone however. She is accompanied by her "Guardian" called Tute. A sort of cybernetic organism that floats around like a head with tentacles but a really nice guy.

Anyway, Birdy finally meets Giga and they have a fight. The fight scene is action packed and you won’t be disappointed.

Photobucket

So the fight continues and right in the midst of it all, Tsutomu (the other main character) wanders in the building where Birdy is fighting. Eventually he accidentally gets killed when Geega uses him as a hostage and throws him right in front of Birdy as she is about to lay a finishing blow. The next morning Tsutomu wakes up in his room wondering if it all has been a dream. He hears voices at first but Birdy eventually tells him that he and she are in the same body.

Episode 2

Birdy finally confronts a confused Tsutomu, they finally have a talk at her ship and she tells him that he was in an accident. She apologizes for having "killed" him but everything will be alright because the people from her planet are hard at work restoring his body. It would just need to take some time so for now Tsutomu has to be inside Birdy’s body.

However, with this situation, it takes time for Tsutomu to adjust. He finds himself talking to Birdy all the time and some people like his classmate in the picture above, seems to misunderstand his intentions.

Photobucket

Birdy gets a call from one of the TV studios as she is offered a part in a local TV series. What she doesn’t know is that Geega was setting her up to have her killed. So much for her 20 minutes of fame.

Photobucket

Bacillus, Geega’s brother is sent to do the dirty work and catches Birdy off guard. But Birdy is too smart for that.

Photobucket

The fight ends abruptly as Bacillus escapes that punch. However, when Bacillus returns to his brother Geega, in a twisted turn of events, he eats him! Bacillus now retains the memory of his brother. I guess you could say that he’s become more powerful.

Episode 3

Photobucket

In this episode, Tsutomu finally flips out. He can’t take the constant talking of Birdy in his head (when they’ve switched positions), can’t take the absurdly large quantities of food consumed everyday and most of all, can’t take the constant body switching. This leads to a little argument but is settled later on.

Photobucket

However, Birdy doesn’t agree with Tute as he puts more priority for Tsutomu’s safety. They eventually come to a disagreement with Birdy ignoring Tute for the rest of the night until the following day.

Photobucket

Things are getting interesting in school as Tsutomu falls for a girl named, Nakasugi. Their little chat is interrupted though when Bacillus discovers them on the rooftop and attacks them both.

Photobucket

To avoid being seen by Nakasugi, Birdy decides that Tsutomu should attack Bacillus first before he could trade places with her. With a swift kick, he saves his would be damsel in distress, Nakasugi, who passes out.

Photobucket

Tute (in his human body), messed up by Bacillus earlier, joins the fight. However he is mortally wounded leaving the situation for dire measures. He authorizes the use of a device that can subdue him for good and gives it to Birdy.

Photobucket

Birdy finally subdues Bacillus but at the cost of Tute’s life. It appears that Tute was with Birdy since she was a child. No wonder she taught of the cybernetic being as her own father.

That’s it for this initial 3 episode review of Tetsuwan Birdy Decode. I’ll continue on as the series progresses and I do hope you like the sort of recap/review that I’ve just started here.
