Vivienne Tam

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

A combination of traditional oriental design and modern fashion, designs made by Vivienne Tam has taken the whole world by storm. Her attractive designs meld the aesthetic and feminine mystique of Asia with the spirit of the modern world.

Some might think that her designs might be too flashy and might not suit the daily fashion need. Well, that’s not the case with this clothing line. The company’s philosophy is “to create harmonious clothing that enhances one’s personality while at the same time provide fashionable clothing for modern women that is beautifully designed, superior in quality, wearable, easy to travel with and affordable.”

Even if they say it’s supposed to be affordable, I still find the pieces pricey.  When end of season sale arrives, after discount, the clothes are still expensive. Surprisingly, with the pricey tag, a lot of women still buy it. With wonderful hand embroidered designs, stunning bead work and flowing silk characterizing the collection, I think it’s a must that every woman should have at least one in her closet.

Check out these wonderful clothes. These are part of the Spring 2007 collection.

Beauty and cuteness combined, that’s what the Smashbox Tokidoki collection is all about. Based on the popular designs made by Italian artist Simone Legno, this collection gives new meaning to fresh beauty.

“Tokidoki really captures the essence of where beauty is headed in the future, which is all about fresh beauty. We don’t want to look “made-up” right now,” explains Smashbox artist Patrick Tumey. “Instead of amazing looking makeup, you want makeup that makes you look amazing. That’s why this collection works.”

This wonderful collection has been around for sometime. It was released along with the Spring 2007 collection of Smashbox. With really wonderful packaging designs, can one actually use these or just keep them for art’s sake? XD

Benefit Cosmetics

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

This is one of my favorite cosmetics brands. The make-up line was started by female identical twins, Jean and Jane, who wanted a unique spin on conventional beauty. Their passion for beauty mixed with a wacky sense of humor paved the way to what we know now as Benefit Cosmetics.

Their brand was originally known as The Face Place, but later renamed to Benefit after a trip to Italy where everything was “Bene! Bene!” (an Italian word meaning “good”). Focusing on the theme “feel good,” the brand’s popularity increased and now has a lot of branches and cosmetics counters worldwide.

Plagued by the usual beauty problems, women has now relied on Benefit for fresh solutions. Catering to women of all ages, their products are irresistible, fun and uniquely problem solving.

With wacky and funny names, it’s no wonder a lot of women easily notice this brand. One of their popular products is known as “Dr. Feelgood”, a skin mattifier and works as a perfect make-up primer.

Want to be gorgeous in 10 seconds? Here’s a popular item is called “Rush Hour”, an all around lipstick and blush, perfect the woman who’s always on the go but still want to look fabulous.

Of course, why would I forget the most-talked about “Dallas”, the blusher and bronzer in one, that gives your skin a natural glow.

A favorite of mine is the “Fantasy Mint Wash”, a dream come true for those who have sensitive skin. Also works as a make-up remover, this minty wash will leave your skin squeaky clean.

They sure got a lot of wonderful items, not only for the face but for the body as well. Using these will definitely make you feel good.

More on Mineral Make-up

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

The first brand of mineral make-up I stumbled upon was ID Mineral Bare Escentuals. I’ve been seeing it in fashion magazines like InStyle. Since I have sensitive skin and I love make-up so much, I was curious about it, but we don’t have stores here that sell that particular brand.

A few months ago at a bazaar, I saw a brand called Luminare. That was my first try with mineral make-up and I love it so much!

It’s true what they say about it, it’s so economical. A little would go a long way. Also, users will not have to keep on re-touching since it stays on the face not like other make-up that eventually “falls off” around the middle of the day.

When using mineral make-up, keep in mind that “less is more.” You’ll notice that when you buy, it’ll come in small amounts. You only need a few strokes from a decent brush (usually a kabuki brush) in order to achieve the desired results. Also, when applying, the more you use, the more it gets dark on your face or eyelids. So, be always aware of the amount you are applying on your face.

Now, I have tried the Bare Escentuals Tinted Mineral Veil, and all I can say is, “It’s perfect!” It gives that natural, sun-kissed glow on ones face. Perfect for all skin types and complexion.

I can’t wait to discover more about this wonderful cosmetics line. There are actually more and more brands appearing that specialize in mineralized formulas. Mineral make-up really is a life saver for those who love make-up but have sensitive skin.
