Got Milk?

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Milk and honey are the original comfort foods. These are usually associated with childhood and relaxation. But these are not only for your kitchen and table, they also have a place beside your bath as well.

I initially posted something about honey as a beautifying agent. If you want to read on it, here’s the link.

canus caswellThis time, we have another beautifying agent from our kitchen and it’s milk! There are many beauty brands that utilize milk as one of their ingredients like Caswell-Massey and Canus.

Do you know why Cleopatra is beautiful? She’s definitely an ancient beauty known for her use of herbal and cosmetic treatments. One of her favorite practices was bathing in milk and herbs to keep her complexion clear and her emotions calm.

What is in milk that makes our bodies healthy and beautiful? MILK CONTAINS LACTIC ACID, a gentle exfoliant, and is a good source of vitamins A and D, which nourish the complexion. Whole milk is such a powerful soother for dry, itchy skin that it can be used to take the sting out of minor burns and rashes.

Pret-a-Porter Dual Look Palette

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

The first Tarte product I came across was the cheek stain. But, since I’m very much into those all-in-one sets, I’ll focus on the limited edition palette instead.

tarte set Inspired by Fashion Week in New York and Paris, this go-anywhere palette wrapped in faux croc provides everything you need to create and apply two complete looks. The Ready-to-Wear Palette includes six shimmering eyeshadows (pale gold, golden olive, smokey moss, pale pink, lilac, deep violet), two cream blushes (honey peach, rose), four sheer lipsticks (light pink, pinky nude, natural blush, warm burgundy rose), a mini Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara, an all over eye shadow brush, an eyeliner brush, and a mini Rest Assured eyeliner.

Perfect for the woman who’s always on the go. This set can be used for both day or night wear.

Creed

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

This is probably the most expensive perfume brand I have encountered. It’s called CREED and each bottle costs around US$200.

The House of CREED is the world’s only privately held luxury fragrance dynasty, founded in 1760 by James Henry Creed and passed from father to son since then, serving more than 11 royal houses and the public for 247 years. It became a favorite with the aristocracy and royalty, receiving its first royal warrant in 1781 from King George III.

A house of tradition, CREED adheres to unrelenting high standards in fragrance creation and client service. CREED uses methods of hand production, including maceration and filtration, instituted at the company’s founding. CREED is the industry’s strongest proponent of natural ingredients in fragrance.

For these reasons, CREED has loyal clients that includes royalty, Hollywood stars, political leaders, legends in business, sports, music and the fine arts as well as discerning members of the public who value beauty and quality in scent.

One of my favorite scents is Spring Flower. It was created for Audrey Hepburn. Fragrance notes include peach, melon, apple, jasmine, rose, musk and ambergris.

Supernatural

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Many women have this concept of hiding their faces behind heavy make-up. Nowadays, the trend is using make-up in order to highlight assets and not mask them.

In the recent fashion shows that showcased this years Fall collection, penciled brows, sculpted cheek, monotone lids are the bare-faced beauty trends that ruled the runaways. They called this look “Supernatural”, the no make-up make-up to subtly enhance every feature.

Here are some nice products to achieve that “Supernatural” look:

DiorSkin AirFlash Spray Foundation is an ultra-fluid mist foundation. It delivers an “airbrushed” effect with precision and ease. Evens out skin tone and visibly diminishes the appearance of fine lines and skin irregularities.

Sephora All-Over Skin Compact Foundation. Smooth and feather light, their pressed powder foundation glides over the skin like silk and leaves your complexion looking like sheer perfection. Each supernatural shade can be applied wet or dry, depending on the coverage you desire. Try applying over liquid foundation in place of powder for a pore-less, porcelain finish.

Me and My Honey

Friday, August 10th, 2007

We all know honey tastes great and it’s considered as nature’s only perfect food, but did you know your skin can benefit from honey, too. Honey is not only used to make food taste better, it is also used as an ingredient for beauty products. A lot of people nowadays also use it is a homemade remedy for the hair, face and body.

That’s right. Honey has a place not only in your kitchen, but near your bath as well. Honey is a natural humectant that promotes moisture retention. It has the natural ability to attract and retain moisture and is an important factor in beauty products because of its ability to maintain softness, suppleness and elasticity. It is also high in potassium content making it difficult for germs to survive.

It can be used for bath, lips, acne treatments, cleansing scrubs, face mask, etc. An all around beauty ingredient, honey could just be the perfect solution to all your beauty essentials.

Here are some homemade beauty regimens using honey:

1. Moisture Mask - Mix 2 tablespoons honey with 2 teaspoons milk. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

2. Acne Aid - Honey helps clear up acne without drying your skin! Use Soothing Skin Clarifier to help clear up minor acne: Mix 1/2 cup warm water with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Using a cotton ball, apply the mixture directly to the blemish. Maintain pressure with the cotton ball for several minutes. This softens the blemish. Then, using a cotton swab, dab honey on the blemish and leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.

3. Lip Moisturizer - Melt 1 tablespoon of honey and stir in 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Place this on your lips to keep them looking great.

4. Hand Moisturizer - Melt 4 tablespoons of honey and stir in 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Massage this over your hands and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Remove with warm water. Your hands will feel soft after the first try.

5. Hair Conditioner - Mix 1/2 cup honey and 1/4 cup olive oil. (Use 2 Tablespoons oil for normal hair.) Work a small amount at a time through hair until coated. Cover hair with a shower cap; leave on 30 minutes. Remove shower cap; shampoo well and rinse. Dry as normal.

6. Smoothing Skin Lotion - Mix 1 teaspoon honey with 1 teaspoon vegetable oil and 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice. Rub into hands, elbows, heels and anywhere that feels dry. Leave on 10 minutes. Rinse off with water.
