Mad Knitta

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I finished one hat last night and have started the second one. I was going to work on the booties, but encountered two problems:

  1. not sure if I have enough yarn
  2. Didn’t copy the actual instructions, just the picture.

So, on to the next hat I went.

Tomorrow is the last day of school and I’ve been telling my daughter we were going to make her teacher a bag as a gift- for about 4 weeks now. So last night, we sat down and sewed her bag together. It was going to be a nice floral oilcloth bag, but my sewing machine did not like the fabric at all, so I cut some pieces out of some Hello Kitty fabric I had left over after making a knitting needle roll. The bag came out very cute. After I had my daughter trim all the loose strings, she said her teacher loves to knit and asked if we could put some needles and yarn in… We did. She said her teacher loved frogs, so I put in a wind up frog I bought. She said her teacher LOVED incense… so we put in a nice pack of incense (since I used to sell them, I have tons), then we put in the burner- since I have a lot of those too. She found a leather journal I had (unused, with the price on it still) and asked to include that too. I would say her teacher has an excellent advocate in my daughter. She went from only recieving a handmade bag to getting a bag full of stuff. But she deserves it and I know she cares for and is very supportive of my daughter- so I was more than happy to do this. It was just so funny how my daughter thought she was hustling me.I also made little cards for her to give to her friends with her email address on it so they can keep in contact with each other. I figured it would be a invisible way for her to work on her writing skills. She wrote a nice letter to her teacher and put it in the bag. I had a nice laugh over it, because it was one of those letters where you ask the boy if he likes you- yes or no, except hers said “are you going to CarMello’s graduation party? Yes or No?” It was very mis-spelled, but phonetic. So keeping up with email will be a great way for her to work on her writing. I hope. I might regret it later.

What up Knitta….

I was having dinner with my nieghbor’s family after her high school graduation, and I heard her talking about this guy who was “totally cute” and should be her “boo”.  He has a wierd first name so she asked the guy if that was his real name or his street name, it is his real name.  I started laughing because I remember how my sister Mary, tried to tell everyone her street name was “May May”. I made fun of her and started calling her “ShaMayMay”. That ended her street cred real quick when I said that in front of her friends.

So anyways, I started thinking of my own street name. I have sorority names, “Miss Sagacious” (which means wise one), or “Sagacious Rhomantic” but those are prissy and sweet… but describe me well.   I need a name to intimidate all those crocheters out there.  So I came up with:

 Crazy Knitta.

I need to put that on a jacket.

My neighbor’s is “Headlock”, but we prefer “Joan E Bird” because she hates it when we call her that.

Her daughter’s name is “C-Nella”- I still call her Car-Mello.

I still haven’t come up with one for my daughter yet…

I have almost finished one of the baby hats. I got a lot done while teaching my knitting class and listening to the speakers at Car-Mello’s graduation ceremony. I just have to put on the ears.  (clickon the pic to see the pattern) My daughter gave me the thumbs up on the HK hat. Should I believe her? Joan E Bird told me that “Hello Kitty is white. You know your daughter’s gonna mess that up” She is right. So maybe hers won’t be white, but a nice pink or blue without the face.  Then it won’t hurt so bad when it gets dirty. It has to be superwash wool too. She is a tomboy through and through. But she loves lip gloss and told me her lip gloss is popping.  What a nut.

I told my mom that you could find my blog on Google and she proceeded to look for it. And she found it. This is the woman who refused to give up VCR and cassette tapes, can’t connect her DVD player, but she has Google DOWN!  She had a nice laugh when she realized it was all about Hello Kitty and knitting. Whatever. She doesn’t understand my love of these wonderful things. Oh well….
