An act of kindness

Today was a day to remember. Me and my daughter went out to Tully’s today, tried to get internet service and failed. But my daughter got a free doughnut. Good for her. I still wanted to check my email. I also watched a drug dealer make several deals in front of the Tully’s and he soon left after he saw me looking at him. Good. But he probably just walked down the block to sling his mess. Then we went to the Pike Place Market and roamed around various booths and the comic book store until it closed.
I was going to go home, but then I felt like looking for books, so we went to Borders. We walked around, halfheartedly looking for a book for my mother’s birthday and then went to the kid’s section and sat on a stool and I looked at American Girl books and my girl grabbed a few books and read them. After a while, I was on a conference call with my sisters goofing off and my child finds a little girl and sits and starts reading with her. After about 15 minutes, I get up and go over to them and say goodbye to my sisters. The lady standing near the girls walks over to me and we do a little chit chat and she says “Your daughter taught my grand daughter to r
ead” and put something in my hand and told me to buy her a few books. I told her it was okay, she didn’t need any money. I looked down and there was a $100 bill in my hand! I was told her that was way too much money and she is insisting that we keep it.
We gave her a hug and chatted a little more before saying our goodbyes. I made my daughter buy a bookmark that will time how much she reads so she knows that she has half and hour of reading after bedtime before she has to put the book down and go to sleep. She also bought three books and started to read one while we were on the bus.
So to the very kind woman at the Downtown Borders store, we say thank you very much and I promise that I will make her spend her money wisely!
