Yay! So, in the past, I’ve made numerous felted items, but i never made a tutorial. Well, now i have! (: I’m not really sure if the pictures explain much at all, but if you read it you might possibly get it?? i try. Most of the stuff i use to make this is leftover stuff from bigger projects. But overall, in my opinion, this is fairly simple. You only need a bit of imagination, and you need to know how to somewhat sew. NOTE: When i say “stitch” i mean the same thing as “sew”.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK!
Oh, and PLEASE excuse my extremely messy desk
YOU NEED: a piece of (any color) felt
a sewing kit? (needle and thread) 2 colors of thread. one the same color as your felt, and the other the opposite color of your felt. Unless you sew really well, you just need the opposite color
scissors
String (any color) WIDTH: 1 cm, the LENGTH you perfer.
and i seriously mean it when i say you need some imagination. you have to imagine the shape of the whale [;
ONE)
Cut a circle! Almost an oval like shape. Cut it a little bigger than the size you want your whale to be.

TWO)
Decide which long side you would like as the top and cut a curve out of it

THREE)
Shape your tail

FOUR)
cut the bottom part off. Almost the same as the top, but be careful not to accidentally cut the tail off

FIVE)
Decide if you want two eyes or one. I want two. I stitched an X on it, but you can stitch beads. I f you want one eye, it’s better not to put it so close to the middle, but you can if you want. Use the opposite color thread.

the finished eyes:

SIX)
the smile! You can make it wide, open, small, or a frown! it doesn’t matter to me! It’s your whale. I just stitched it on, but i hate doing the smiles, most of the time i mess up, or i am unsatisfied, so i take it off. Use the opposite color thread.

Then Go aground again if you would like. I didn’t like my smile. i like things very neat. So i took it off and decided to leave my whale mouthless.

SEVEN)
This step isn’t necessary, but it will make your whale look better. Now, take another piece of felt and cut it into the same shape as the whale body (you do not need to include the tail) Since the back of the whale might look a little off because of the sewing, So this piece will hide everything.
you don’t need to do anything with it yet.
EIGHT)
Put your string on the BACK of the whale and sew it on. BUT! when you sew, make sure the needle does not go to the other side of the whale. You can do this on the extra piece of felt for step seven if you would like. It works the same. Use the same color thread.

When finished:
NINE)
now, take the extra piece of felt (step seven) and place it on the back of the whale, where the string is. then FROM THE INSIDE, sew it around the entire whale. i think this step is confusing. Like the string, make sure that when you sew it, the needle does not go to the other side. Use the same color thread.

I like to cut a little heart with a little piece of leftover felt and put it in the whale before i close it. You don’t have to do this, but i do this for everything (:

FINI!
Once you close it, you’re basically done! I think if you make more multi-colored whales, this would be a great baby mobile.
