howl’s moving castle:

pg: 10 and up

animation - 10, characters - 9, plot - 9, enjoyment - 9 - 9

plot: A plain young hatter named Sophie has her life changed when an evil witch transforms her into an old woman. Unable to face her family in such a condition, Sophie runs away in search of a way to become young again. Along the way, Sophie helps a turnip headed scarecrow, who repays her by leading her to the moving castle owned by the dreaded wizard Howl. There she befriends Howl’s apprentice Markl, Howl’s fire demon Calcifer, and eventually, Howl himself. Sophie then becomes the castle’s cleaning lady in an effort to not only find the solution to her problem but to save Howl from his own terrible secrets as well.

my review: a strong example of how miyazaki’s movies are beautifully done; great animation and a great story for all ages

why you wouldn’t like it: the story is incomplete and largely uneventful. It seems to rely heavily on typical magical “Ghibli” atmosphere, which does NOT, in fact, carry the story. The perceived antagonist is not confronted (meeting her is not a confrontation). Just when one thinks the plot is building up, it ends. So saying this is horrible is not an exaggeration. One does not have to have a “Ghibli background” to recognize how poorly done this story is. <- a comment taken from anidb.net

a galaxy police adventure

by cross_star_luv:hellokitty.com

Tenchi Muyo Mihoshi Special: animation - 8, plot - 8, characters - 8, enjoyment - 8; 8

rated: PG (for bloodless violence and bad language)

plot: Mihoshi tells a story of her most famous mission with the Galaxy Police and casts all of the Tenchi Muyo characters, against their will, in it.

my review: the special focuses on mihoshi and kiyone which weren’t my favorite characters so it kind of paled in comparison to the series but it’s still an enjoyable special

why you wouldn’t like it: honestly if you weren’t a fan of tenchi then this might not be in your style

some anime shouldn’t be live-action

by cross_star_luv:hellokitty.com

grave of the fireflies:

live action, characters - 8, plot - 7, enjoyment - 7 - 7

description: NTV in Japan produced a live-action version of Grave of the Fireflies, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. The movie aired on November 1, 2005. Like the anime, the live-action version of Grave of the Fireflies focuses on two siblings struggling to survive the final days of the war in Kobe, Japan. Unlike the animated version, it tells the story from the point of view of their cousin (the aunt’s daughter) and deals with the issue of how the war-time environment could change a kind lady into a cold-blooded demon. It stars Japanese celebrity and actress Nanako Matsushima as the aunt, as well as Inoue Mao as their cousin. The movie is approximately 2 hours and 28 minutes long.

my review: Unfortunately this just led to confusion for me and as it turns out this girl doesn’t even really show up in the anime often..I think it’s nice that there’s a new point of view to a story but it lost me and I don’t find it a classic

why you would like it: the cast actually is well chosen and they fit the characters very well

animals have feelings too

she and her cat ova:

animation - 10, plot - 10, enjoyment - 10 -

rated: g - all ages

my review: this is a beautiful ova that is only 5 minutes long even though it’s so short it pilots its message well this cat loves the girl, you can’t really do anything with the characters i mean they’re introduced but no development happens which what you would expect. This was the reason you picked up voices of a distant star.

why you wouldn’t like this: some people have said it needs to be longer i think that’s the main problem I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t like this though

final fantasy 7: advent chilren: animation - 10, characters - 10, plot - 10, enjoyment - 10:

PG (mild bad language and bloodless violence)

Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Pictures, Images and Photos

plot: Two years after the end of Final Fantasy VII the world is starting to get back on it’s feet and is working towards a new future. However, there is a new threat from a new illness called Geo-stigma, and three men that seem to be seeking Jenova. Cloud and his friends from the orginal game must once again reunite to combat the new threat.

my review: OMG final fantasy 7 have my babies now all of them! This is an epic movie and if you’re a final fantasy 7 fan don’t miss it.

why you wouldn’t like it: I’d suggest you go play final fantasy 7 because this movie is meaningless if you haven’t played the game

it’s magic! PG-13 content please

telepathy shoujo ran: animation - 8, characters -7 , plot - 9, enjoyment - 7 - 7 -

pg-13: due to the subject content (you may argue this but obviously the girls are in junior high 1st year therefore they’d be at least 13 possibly 12)
plot: Ran is a bright and energetic first-grader in junior high school who possesses supernatual abilities. Together with Midori (her friend who also has supernatural powers) and Rui, the threesome are constantly embroiled in mysterious circumstances. Ran is troubled by her powers because it seems to spark off the ill intentions of people in contact with her. However, with the support of her family and peers, Ran learns to deal with her ‘other’ side and accepts who she is. The threesome also learn how to team up as a whole and solve these mysterious events
my review: nothing really pulls me in i don’t understand why but i find the animation to be kind of bad even for it’s time; i also find the main character’s voice to be a drill
why you would like this: the target audience seems to be more for children than anything else; it’s also very comedic

i know this may start something

i decided to add some live action movies of anime to the anime reviews

dragonball evolution: live action -

characters - 6 , plot - 5, enjoyment - 7 - a flat 6 -
PG: 10 and up

my review: Before you say you watched this why? I watched it for the same reason any fan of dragonball did to see what happened. I don’t reconmend anyone to attempt to watch the movie until you watched the series because this won’t help you get into it.. One thing to note that they did right is that they really worked on the martial arts. It’s modernized big time which is ultimately its downfall; compared to the series you’ll think train wreck because it kind of is and if you’re going to take a name.. Isn’t the point to follow the series as loyally as possible?; the characters aren’t all bad I mean chichi’s actually good looking and she is indeed Asian. Bulma’s def not Asian however the actress who plays her is indeed Asian and she has weird highlights to disguise her hair and Yamacha’s kept as well as they could. Is this worth 2 sequels? No and since it was a bust in the box office it’s not likely they’ll do even a sequel.

why you would like it: if you want an action movie then skip the fact that dragonball is in the title because it’s an okay action movie but that’s it.

because everyone wanted chibiusa and helios to get together admit it!

sailor moon super s: animation - 10, characters - 7, plot -6, enjoyment - 6: 6 -

rating: 10 and up (mild bad language and bloodless violence)

The senshi fight against the Dead Moon Circus (Zirconia, Nehelenia, the Amazon Trio, the Amazoness Quartet), who wants to ultimately take over the world. This season is heavily centered around Chibi-usa and her relationship with Helios (Pegasus).

my review: super s is all about chibiusa she wasn’t a favorite of mine so naturally i don’t like super s however i luff the enemies the most colorful part of this show. This also to me felt more childish than the other series because the sailor senshi while they get romances they don’t really age too much except for that and Usagi seems more immature

why you would like this: you may find super s easier to deal with than the other series which are filled with angst and the manga is actually worth reading

“quit leaving the pokemon at home XD”

pikachu’s winter vacation 1: animation - 6, characters - 10, enjoyment - 8 - 8 - (1999 version yup there’s 3)

Rated: G for all ages

Summary: The first part of the adventure comes from a little while ago when Ash, Misty, Brock and their Pokemon went to stay in Professor’s private lodge for a little winter break. In this part, Pikachu and other Pokemon meet up with several other Pokemon like Kangaskhan, and they begin a lot of different adventures. The Second part shows how our Pokemon friends are having fun when Ash, Misty, and Brock are out shopping for Christmas dinner.

my review: this is a filler like all of the others; luckily this is from the 1st season which brings back memories of how much i loved these! Split into 2 parts it’s 18 minutes long

why you wouldn’t like this: well i feel like only fans of the 1st season pokemon will get this and enjoy it and besides it’s kid’s movie so don’t expect too much from it.

A bridal anime

by cross_star_luv:hellokitty.com

wedding peach: animation - 4, characters - 2, plot - 2, enjoyment - 3 - 3

plot: There are three known worlds–the human world, the angel world, and the devil world. The evil queen Raindevilla yearns to destroy the angel world with help or her many devil minions. The goddess Aphrodite sends an angel to the human world, Limone, to summon three love angels in the form of three school girls, Momoko Hanasaki, Yuri Tanima, and Hinagiku Tamano, who together become Angel Lilly, Angel Daisy, and Wedding Peach. The three girls must fight to overcome the evils of the devils, as well as their own lives, and restore peace to the angel world by gathering all pieces of the Sacred Four Somethings (or Saint Something Four) and defeat the evil queen once and for all.

my review: this is an example of how my tastes change over the years..I liked this anime a lot when i was younger as i got older I slowly realized this is really some horrible shoujo, predictable characters and I didn’t like any of them. I also felt the plot was really cliche however the manga’s really good..

why you would like this: if you have the patience to deal with watching the first few episodes and a love for shoujo anime then this could be right up your alley
