Dough:
100g dark chocolate shavings
150g flour
1 vanilla pod
150g sugar
50g almonds; finely chopped
1 ts baking powder
1 touch of salt
6 eggs, size L
1 ts lemon juice
200g marzipan paste
Melted butter for the baking dish
Topping:
250g powdered sugar
a bit of water
blue food colouring
a bit of red food colouring (you can also leave that)
white cake glaze /vanilla or white chocolate)
dark cake glaze (dark chocolate or milkchocolate or hazelnut)
Smarties (2x brown, 1x yellow and pink or violet or… for the bow)
additional decoration if you want
Recipe:
Slice the vanilla pod lengthwise and take out the marrow. Mix flour, almonds, salt and baking powder. Add the vanilla marrow and the chocolate shavings.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
Grease the foursquared baking dish ( about 35×27 cm) with the melted butter. Separate the eggs. Beat the egg white until stiff and add the lemon juice. Cut the marzipan paste to pieces and put it in a pot. Add the sugar and blend it as good as possible with a mixer. That´s really difficult! Don´t wonder!
Add the eggyolk (the dough is getting creamy now). Stir the flour-chocolate-mix in. Mix half of the whipped egg whites in and afterwards fold the other half of the whipped egg whites carefully in. Fill the dough into the baking dish and smooth it down.
Bake it about 25-30 minutes until the cake is golden brown (check if it’s done). Take the cake out of the oven, let it cool down for 10 minutes, before you take it out of the dish by turning it upside down. Let it cool down completely, with the cake base on top.
Carve a Hello Kitty face into the cake. Cover the face with the white icing. Stick the Smarties for eyes and nose into the icing. Mix the powdered sugar with some water and colour it with some blue food colouring. If necessary diversify the colour with some red food colouring.
Cover the cake with the blue sugar-coating by allowing a small margin next to the Kitty face. Fill this margin with the melted dark icing. Carefully paint on the whiskers. (Take care: if the icing is too liquid, chocolate drops can go awry!)
Stick the rest of the Smarties for the bow into the icing. If the icing dried in the meantime and doesn´t stick anymore, glue it with the chocolate icing or the sugar-coating.
Decorate the borders of the cake as you like.
Done!
