It is entirely possible that my film sensibilities are quite not up to par. LOL. My coworker let me borrow her DVD, The Triplets of Belleville. She and the other designer were raving about how good it was and how I was gonna love it.
Needless to say, I did NOT. LOL. There was barely any conversation and I just wasn’t a fan of the animation.
Guess I’ve been too spoiled by Miyazaki, Disney and Pixar…

I saw an advanced screening of Tropic Thunder last night. I’ve been to advanced screenings before, but never to one where a studio executive was actually there. Apparently, they wanted to see our reactions to the movie and what we had to say about it. It’s a Ben Stiller movie and reminded me of Zoolander in that many celebrities made cameos playing themselves in it. LOL. Tom Cruise’s “makeup” kinda freaked me out. He was SOO hairy! Overall, it’s definitely a fun and funny movie. But if you’re looking for a movie with thought-provoking plot and dramatic acting, this isn’t it.

My friends and I do movie nights each month as a way of keeping in touch since we all live in different towns — some closer than others. July is my turn to host and show my movies. I planned on showing Be Kind Rewind, The Triplets of Belleville, and if there was time, Lars and the Real Girl. Unfortunately, MP couldn’t make it. As Movie Night rules state, if one of us can’t make it, it has to be cancelled. I then rescheduled it to last Saturday. But, lo and behold, AY texted us all telling us she won’t be able to make it this time. Sadly, it seems my July movie night is cursed…

So I was one of those excited people who went to see The Dark Knight at midnight (12.03a) on Thursday/Friday. Needless to say, I got there about an hour before the showtime anticipating a huge crowd. I didn’t expect the crowd to be so big! It seems a local rock radio station was holding a costume contest — possibly to give way free tickets — because there were quite a few people dressed up as Batman characters, mostly Jokers.
The movie was truly great! I really think it was worth the hype! Christian Bale is definitely my favorite Batman! Heath Ledger’s Joker was amazing. There are rumors to a potential posthumous Oscar nom. He is certainly deserving. Jack Nicholson has nothing on him!
I’ve been seeing quite a few Batman movies circulating on TV again… probably to capitalize on the success of The Dark Knight. All the older movies just seem so cartoon-ish and unrealistic compared to the 2 new Batmans. Kudos to Christopher Nolan’s visual stylings and directing.

In one of my past postings, I think I’ve mentioned my excitement over the filming near my work. Well, they came back on Monday and have been filming again. Needless to say, my excitement is over as they’ve taken over parts of the road near my work inconveniencing everyone. I’ve found my commute home to take longer because of the road closures
On a lighter note, rumor has it that Verizon is starting to install FiOS in my area, which will allow its subscribers access to “blazing fast” internet, better tv quality, etc. More information about FiOS can be found on Verizon’s FiOS site and on Wikipedia. For someone who has been stuck on dialup for quite some time, this is definitely great news! For now though, we’re gonna have to settle for Comcast cable internet…

I saw Get Smart on Saturday with my friend, Jen. I admit I’m was a little disappointment. I had so much hope for it! But, the humor was definitely face-value. Plus, a lot of the physical comedy got to be too much and therefore unfunny. Funny enough, Kung Fu Panda is still my reigning comedy film this month
After the movie, we headed to Bath & Body Works to hit up their semi-annual sale to stock up on my favorite scents: Japanese Cherry Blossom, Mango Mandarin, Tropical Passionfruit, and Sensual Amber. Unfortunately, I was told Tropical Passionfruit has been *gasp* discontinued!
I also bought a tarot card set from Barnes & Noble using the gift card my company gave me for my birthday. The cards are so beautifully illustrated! I must admit that I was drawn to tarot because of the mysticism that comes with it. Although, I’m sure my readings won’t be accurate at all. LOL. It’s still fun

“My One and Only” starring Chris Noth and Renée Zellweger is currently shooting in our area. My friend and I went down to the park to eat our lunch since it was a nice and breezy day today. We saw all the production trucks and the people setting up around us. It was pretty cool seeing the whole thing. We didn’t notice anyone famous though.
When I returned to my office, my office mate got a call from 2 other coworkers who were freaking out because Chris Noth was in front of them reading on a bench. They ended up taking a picture with him. LOL.
I wasn’t so excited because I am not a fan of either of them. LOL. Now, if it had been Christian Bale or someone cool like that… then it might be a different story…
