I know that I’m not the only one to get caught up in the mineral makeup “revolution.” Seems like every major cosmetics brand now offers their own version of mineral makeup.
I think Bare Escentuals was probably one of the first to “revolutionize” with their bareMinerals line. I remember seeing their informercials all the time. They got me curious about them since I’m primarily not a makeup wearer at all because I don’t like the feel of it on my face. My friend, Jade, hit up Sephora and bought herself a starter kit. (Current online price: $59.98/$60 + s&h) I was more reserved and she swore up and down about how awesome it was. I tried it and was kinda underwhelmed by it. It made my face shiny…
I did some research and found Sheer Cover. It offered similar promises that bareMinerals did, but at a lower price point of $29.95+ s&h for their starter kit. That appealed to me so I promptly ordered it online. I liked the goodies that came with the kit. They are plentiful and worth the $30 or so…
However, what turned me off from this product is its insistence that I join its “subscription club” where I am automatically sent a new Sheer Cover kit in a certain time period. Each additional kit costs up to $90, a far cry from the $30 I originally paid and I didn’t use the makeup enough to warrant a subscription so I left Sheer Cover and went searching for another mineral makeup provider.
After some research (mainly through Google searches), I found Aromaleigh.

Aromaleigh is a small company founded by Kristen Leigh Bell, an aromatherapist and artist. The company seemed to be known for its makeup ingredients in that they do not use bismuth oxychloride, which has been known to hurt sensitive skin and which can sometimes cause irritation and breakouts.
Besides that, the biggest draw for me is the array of colors the makeup come in so it’s easier to find the color that matches my skin tone. Also, the prices are much more reasonable than its big-name competitors, and you can try samples of each color to see if it works for you before you throw down your money and buy the full jar. Lastly, its online forum is packed with lots of “Aromaleigh Aficionadas” who are very helpful in answering a myriad of makeup and color questions one might have.
I highly recommend Aromaleigh.

Aromaleigh looks really promising.
A brand that we have here is Young Blood. A bit expensive though and I find their colors a bit strong.

That’s true, there is a mineral make-up craze going on.. even the big companies like revlon and loreal are coming up with their offerings. Thanks for the interesting entry.

Let’s be clear. There are three main types of mineral makeup companies. One consists of Bare Minerals, also called Bare Escentuals, and the half dozen or so others of that ilk. With their huge budgets and appetite for QVC time, these companies have become a new “main” stream of makeup, the big boxes of the field.
