Warmest 1st Day of Chinese New Year
According to Hong Kong Observatory, yesterday (Feb 18, 2007) was the warmest 1st day of Chinese New Year in Hong Kong history - reaching temperature of 25.3 celcius! So most people wore their T-shirts, blouse… and have to hide their expensive mink coats away.
But of course, 1st day of Chinese New Year didn’t fall on the same day on the Gregorian calendar in the past years. Sometimes it’s in January, sometime late February, depends on the way how lunar calendar is calculated.
It is very clear that global warming is very noticeble. Jan and Feb supposed to be the coldest months. I remember I used to use duvet throughout the winter, not anymore.
My second home was Winnipeg, Manitoba - a place where temperature used to dip to -30 C or less in Jan and Feb. Today, it’s -10. To the locals, it’s the temperature of early spring. We used to live in 6 months of deep frozen condition, now the winter is shorter and not as cold as it was before. I think in another 10 year, I won’t mind returning there for good..
