Where did my Kitty Points go?
Monday, September 28th, 2009An utterly random observation
Monday, September 14th, 2009To “us”, HKO means “Hello Kitty Online”. But did you know it’s an acronym also used for the Hong Kong Observatory?
Some random googling today came back with a hit which said Moon phase icon now featured on HKO front page. Of course, my first reaction was “oooh, is this a new feature? Like having night and day and stuff?”.
Well, I thought it was interesting.
Oh and looking at the (other) HKO page, it looks like Hong Kong is having a severe weather event. Hope y’all are OK!
A package from Starrfire7
Monday, August 24th, 2009I guess by now it’s no secret that I have my fingers in pretty much any version of HKO that’s running. And that does include PH; I was either able to get around their d/l restrictions via a proxy, or else they just removed the d/l restrictions.
Anyways, gloot.net is (was?) offering a free DVD of the game client, but you either had to pick it up, or they’d mail it to you, provided you were in Singapore. Well, pretty much counts me out.
But Starrfire7 and her sister were nice enough to help me. Ghost traveled to one of the locations, and Starr actually mailed it. You might have seen some of the other people posting their packages. Mine was the last to arrive. Tee, who lives about 500 miles south of me, got hers before the weekend, so I spent all weekend stressing (and even went to the PO to harass them).
That red thing is a Hello Kitty ruler, I’ll be bringing that in to work for sure. The white piece of typewritten paper are installation, etc, instructions.
Here is the reverse of the CD sleeve.
I do have to say that gloot did a very nice job producing this.
Finally, one last surprise gift:
It’s a “back off” sign you hang in your rear window when you get tailgated. And I hate tailgaters. Although from a pretty women like Starr, I’d prefer if it said “kiss me” instead.
Oh, and on the back of the envelope is the trademark Starrfire7, err Little Twin Star stickers.:
Thank you so much for thinking of me, and taking the time and effort to send me these things. If there’s ever a favor I can do, let me know.
Hair cut
Friday, July 24th, 2009I’m kinda vain about my hair. Perhaps obviously, since I’m even making a blog about it :P But not overly so. I’m not the kind of guy who primps and preens anytime there’s a mirror around. But I do like to keep my hair nice. Shampoo and conditioner at least once a day. No chemicals! No blow-dry!
I’m personally partial to long hair. It’s been quite a while since I had my hair cut, cause I was gonna let it go. But it was in that annoying middle stage, and right now, it was just easier to get it over with. And since it was kinda traumatic, I figured blogging would also be good therapy. I’ll have to see if I can find pix of when I used to have hair literally to my arse, if you’ll pardon my tongue.
I’ll put pix after the break so you can prepare yourself to yell eek
LoTRO horses
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009I’ve mentioned that I started to play The Lord of the Rings Online again. So far it’s pretty good. Not as bad as I imagined. Everyone is pretty casual. I unintentionally wiped our party the other day, cause I just keep forgetting where my hotkeys are. Nobody was too upset.
Anyways, it’s the summer festival. It was supposed to end on the 21st, but for some reason they extended it to the end of August. I hadn’t planned on partcipating since I figured there wasn’t enough time, but this week I decided to buckle down and get the festival horse. Here is my “old” blood bay horse.
And the new festival horse.
It’s a little bit flashy, don’t you think? But that’s the idea, it’s a special reward! You have to turn in your old horse to get the new one. Or you could buy a second horse, but at 4g, that’s a little steep to indulge. (yea, 4 gold is, or was, a fairly decent amount of money).
Hello Kitty’s Apocalyptic Online Nightmare
Monday, July 13th, 2009I dunno why I did this. I kinda woke up this morning and it just popped into my mind. Is there something wrong with me?
Anyways, don’t be offended :P Y’all know I love HKO, but just I couldn’t get this image out of my head.
July 4th
Saturday, July 4th, 2009So today is the Fourth of July, otherwise known as Independence Day in the US. Since the 4th is on a Saturday, most businesses, etc, had Friday off, so I had a nice three-day weekend. I couldn’t find any local fireworks, though? Apparently some of the towns had theirs on Friday? NY is having theirs on the Hudson tonight, but someone told me it’s madness trying to get anywhere near there; people have been settling in since yesterday. Oh well. I’ve got channel 4 on right now.
Oh no you didn’t
Thursday, July 2nd, 2009Oh yes I did… Reactivated my LoTRO account *shrug*
I’m still playing the ID and the SG versions of HKO. Since ID is live, I’ve been spending most of my time there. And hopefully once the SG version goes live, we’ll get some news on the US version? Hint hint? It’s fairly obvious that I like, and will continue, to play HKO. But, you know, variety and that stuff?
I’m sure the GMs don’t really care one way or another what games I play. Heck, they’re GMs, they’re probably gamers themselves, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them played any of the big-name commercial games. I know when I was a GM, I needed to play someone elses games. Kinda the need to “get away from work”. Or perhaps that’s just me projecting? If so, my apologies.
It’s odd that just after posting my musings about LoTRO that I received an email from Turbine, “come back for $9.95!”. Well, I looked into it, but that $10 is for new players, and I wanted to reactivate my old account, so “certain restrictions apply”. Of course they’re always having “come back” specials.
Anyways, here are some screenshots after the break, if you’re interested. I also put these screenies after the break, cause I run my video at 1600×1200, so they can be a little large.
Easter egg hunt contest prize
Tuesday, June 30th, 2009Remember the Easter egg hunt contest SanrioTown ran? I was one of the winners from round 2, and my prize came today! It is a Hello Kitty 1gb USB memory stick. I actually won one of these last year, in a contest inside HKO, so now I have two of them!
Hmm, I should RAID them. Yea, I know, RAID with two drives isn’t fun (mirroring, or striping), you really need three or more for the real fun.
When I inserted it into my computer, there were two files on it! One is an HKO trailer, the other is a trailer for the animated series The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends.
It looks like the same person who packaged the first prize also packaged this one. The handwriting is the same. See, here is the “new” one:
And here is the “old” one:

Such neat handwriting. I’d like to meet the person who wrote this out. I have terrible handwriting, so I admire good handwriting. See, here is what my handwriting looks like. This is a sheet of scratch paper at work, so it’s “real”.

I’d like to blame technology. I mean, I don’t really need to write. Everything can be done electronically, yes? But that theory is easily shattered. Oh well.
Thanks again :)

Friday, June 5th, 2009Hello Kitty DVD
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009I dunno what’s wrong with me. I guess I’m just a sucker for stuff. They tease us with trailers of the “Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends”, but it doesn’t appear to be available in the US. Or if so, not on any of my channels. So I decided to purchase this:
But given the lack of availability in the US, I got it shipped from . . .
(check out the wonderful stamp)
I was cheezed off, cause the seller said it was “worldwide”, which, to me, means region-free (or region-0, or whatever you want to call it), but it’s really region-3. So I couldn’t play it on my home-theater. I probably could have set the region, but I didn’t want to mess with that. So I set the region on my PC, and played it from there.
I only watched the first episode, but it’s pretty nice. Obviously geared towards teaching lessons, but it they did a good job at writing it so almost any audience could enjoy it.
And more importantly, Kitty doesn’t have a mouth! I’ve watched some other (older? I dunno) HK animation, where they’ve animated a mouth, and it just doesn’t work. Yea, maybe it looks funny hearing a character speak with no visible mouth, but guess what? It’s a cartoon! They can do whatever they want!
Maybe someone will somehow stumble on my comments about non-US availability. But that’s probably just me reaching above my station in life.
