Some thigns are better seen than read.
Taken from the New York Comic Convention. I can’t wait for July.
First we had the news of the final DVD collection of Avatar, along with spoilers for the end-game of the series. Now, we have even more spoilers about the more immediate future of Avatar, as well as the upcoming films to be directed by acclaimed (or should the word be eccentric?) director M. Night Shyamalan.
First off, the immediate news. We’ve all heard about the amazing weirdness that is Phoenix Lord Ozai, but that’s still eight episodes away (more or less). But here’s a preview of The Boiling Rock (Part 1), although the image quality’s pretty bad, and it’s in another language. But that’s not important. What’s important is that you see footage from the next episode, and from the looks of it, it will be a very awesome episode indeed.
Also, news regarding the first Avatar live-action film has been popping up here and there. Firstly, it has been revealed that the feature film will air on 2010, a scant two years since the film was announced. Shyamalan is still directing, but a list of the tentative producers has been released. These will include:
Some of these names are notable for producing blockbuster hits such as Signs, The Sixth Sense, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. Brian Konietzko and Michael DiMartino are the de facto executive producers of the film. The biggest piece of news surrounding the film, however, is the name. Due to the legal battle between the producers and James Cameron, who will be releasing a film entitled “Avatar” in 2009, the eponymous title was dropped, and the film will instead be called The Last Airbender.
First and foremost, the news about the flyers that I posted the other day turns out to be a fluke. The story can be found here.
As for the spoilers, direct your eyes to the following photograph:
An excerpt from the link: "The kids return to the Fire Nation and prepare for their final confrontation with Firelord Ozai, but they discover that the Firelord has plans of his own: he has ordained himself Phoenix Lord and appointed Princess Azula as the next Firelord. In the spectacular 4-part finale of Avatar Book 3: Fire, Aang fulfills his destiny as Avatar and confronts the Firelord in the greatest battle of the series."
Nothing says more spoileriffic than that! Now it’s just a question as to when the finale will actually air. . .
I don’t know just how unprecedented this is, but when the director of a show decides to boycott the network airing the said show, you gotta admit that this is pretty big.
The director I speak of is Giancarlo Volpe, one of Avatar’s respected helmsmen, and the man behind the season two episode "The Drill," which won an Annie for Best Directing in an Animated Television Production. In his Deviant Art post dated April 10, Volpe technically hands Nickelodeon an ultimatum of sorts by calling the fans to boycott the network until new episodes of Avatar begin to air.
Unprecedented? Maybe. Awesome? You bet. Giancarlo Volpe is a man among men.
Just like Jake of DongbuFeng said, I don’t know just how legit this image is, but it’s Avatar-related info although it doesn’t do much to quell any and all AWS. Interesting to note is the marketing schedule at aroudnd the bottom of the page. It clearly states that the season finale takes place in May (of this year, yes). Now it’s nearly mid-April, and that means they’ve got less than a month to show more or less seven episodes (although they haven’t aired 312 and 313 in the USA yet, there will be two big movie events within the latter part of season three). Which might mean that new episodes could start airing soon. At least, that’s what everybody’s hoping. We’ll find out more at the New York comic con.
Since everybody’s just waiting for the New York Comic Con for news about Avatar’s future episodes, I’ve been scouring Youtube for related videos.
You’ll be surprised with what you can find.
Take this video, for example (not for the faint-hearted Haru fans, FYI):
Haru = WIN
Of Dongbu Feng’s April 1st posts. Yeah, I was taken in, too. The thought of a preview for the upcoming episodes was just too good to be true. And I don’t know why, but the idea of Tim Burton working with M. Night Shyamalan on the Avatar movies don’t really sit very well with me.
I just hope that update of theirs with regards to the double episodes wasn’t an April Fools prank. Man. What a way to get my AWS going.
According to the convention folks, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Di Martino will both be at a panel during the New York Comic Convention on Saturday, April 19th. The word is that the panel’s going to be called Into the Inferno: Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Finale, which oozes spoilers and excitement in every last syllable.
I can’t wait. It feels just like waiting for the trailer of season three, except that you know this time, it’s going to be the last you’ll ever hear of Aang and the gang from Mike and Brian. You can find out more about the details here.
Last March 29th, the 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards were held at the Pauley Pavillion in California. In this momentous occasion, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was awarded the “Favorite Cartoon” award, what could very well be the most prestigious award throughout the entire event. This is refreshing news: it’s been a pretty long time since Avatar garnered any awards, despite being the excellent show that it is. So congratulations to the cast and crew of Avatar: The Last Airbender. You guys deserve the recognition. Now, on with the show!
I don’t really know if this is good news or another set of false alarms, but I’ve some news that may or may not be the real deal. There hasn’t been any official word from either Nick or Viacom, so all of this is still in the realm of speculation. Sigh.
First off, we’ve got this little item from the Internet Movie Database (click on the link to check it out). If you’ll scroll down to the season three section, you can see that the air dates of all the episodes (except for one) have all been mapped out. Now, this is curious; how would IMDB know about the air dates of the remaining AtLA shows when even insiders like Dongbu Feng or Distant Horizon have no idea as to when the episodes will be airing? There’s also the curious little lack of information on “The Boiling Rock.” How could they have the entire four-part finale mapped out without having any idea as to when the second part of a minor story arc will be airing?
Sounds suspicious to me.
The airdates they posted for “The Western Air Temple” and “The Firebending Masters” are pretty accurate, though, if you think about it. While these two episodes have yet to air on American television, they had already been shown ahead of schedule (I use the term loosely here) in either Canada or the Netherlands. I believe the airdates for these shows on the above said link are pretty exact, which lends a bit of credibility to the list. Not much, but enough to make forlorn Avatards hope a little bit more.
In Dongbu Feng’s chatbox, meanwhile, moderator Dylan unleashed something that, as of this moment, has yet to be confirmed: Avatar may start airing new episodes (in the U.S., I’m guessing) by April fourth. Truth? We can only guess at this point in time.
