All things Avatar: The Last Airbender!

What an Awesome Week

First we had the news of the final DVD collection of Avatar, along with spoilers for the end-game of the series. Now, we have even more spoilers about the more immediate future of Avatar, as well as the upcoming films to be directed by acclaimed (or should the word be eccentric?) director M. Night Shyamalan.

First off, the immediate news. We’ve all heard about the amazing weirdness that is Phoenix Lord Ozai, but that’s still eight episodes away (more or less). But here’s a preview of The Boiling Rock (Part 1), although the image quality’s pretty bad, and it’s in another language. But that’s not important. What’s important is that you see footage from the next episode, and from the looks of it, it will be a very awesome episode indeed.

Also, news regarding the first Avatar live-action film has been popping up here and there. Firstly, it has been revealed that the feature film will air on 2010, a scant two years since the film was announced. Shyamalan is still directing, but a list of the tentative producers has been released. These will include:

  • M. Night Shyamalan
  • Kathleen Kennedy
  • Frank Marshall
  • Sam Mercer
  • Scott Aversano

Some of these names are notable for producing blockbuster hits such as Signs, The Sixth Sense, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. Brian Konietzko and Michael DiMartino are the de facto executive producers of the film. The biggest piece of news surrounding the film, however, is the name. Due to the legal battle between the producers and James Cameron, who will be releasing a film entitled “Avatar” in 2009, the eponymous title was dropped, and the film will instead be called The Last Airbender.
