Ottawa Trip (Part 1)

Currently feeling:angelstar-kaos001Cheery

Finally, I’ll be talking about and posting pictures of my trip to Ottawa! Huzzah!

I’ll be dividing this trip into several posts, so it doesn’t take up too much space. :) Now that I’m looking back on it, I want to go again… ~ It was so much fun! (Please note I will not be posting pics of myself… sorry!)

So, we had to wake up at around 6 am, and headed for school at around 7. There, we took stock of luggage and everything, and steeled ourselves for a 4 hour bus ride (aka, we went to the bathroom).

We rode on the bus with a couple of bathroom breaks… Along the way, a whole group of people on our bus started competing in Mario Kart (my friend, who was sitting beside me, came in last in every race xD) I didn’t play because I didn’t bring Mario Kart, so I played Luminous Arc 2 instead, with one of my other friends watching. :3

When we (finally!) arrived at Ottawa, we went to the Rideau Center for lunch. There, we got some photo opportunities! We even got a group picture with a soldier (fyi: there were a lot of soldiers there). I can’t post it though, because I don’t post pics of myself online, and I didn’t get permission from the soldier… oh well… But I can post pics of…

Chateau Laurier! We didn’t actually get to go inside, but my friends and I left the mall and took a couple of pictures of it. We had this competition thing going on, where we were all divided into groups and had to take pictures of certain things to win (and answer worksheets…)! Chateau Laurier was one of the things we had to take  pics of.

Forgot what this was called… anyway, one of the monuments we passed by. :)

After that, we went off to our first attraction… Parliament Hill! (I’ll post some of the things I learned about Parliment Hill from the tour guide later).

The Parliament Buildings! The place where the laws of Canada are born! xD Learn more about them here:

A group of Chinese playing in a band at the front of the Parliament building… they were supposed to be promoting something, but I forgot what. ^^; That day was already scorching hot, so I felt bad for them in their long pants and long sleeved shirts…

That’s it for today… I took a whole bunch of pictures, but that’s all I’m posting for today… will be posting more later on when I have time. I’ll also go into more detail about the places I went to. :)

Sticky Rice Day

Currently feeling: angelstar-kaos002Weary

I know, the title is a bit odd. ^^; I wasn’t sure about the direct translation of this Chinese food into english, so this is the best I can do.

Here’s a picture I took of one. It’s still wrapped up in the leaves, so you can’t see the actual rice, and I didn’t feel like waiting until my mom decided to cook it. Oh well.

The story goes like this: a very popular minister realized that the king wasn’t paying attention to the demands of the people, so the kingdom was starting to deteriorate. So the king would pay attention to the people, he committed suicide by jumping into a river (personally, I think there could have a better solution…). The people really liked this guy and they didn’t want  the fish to start eating his body. So, they threw the leaves you use to wrap sticky rice in the water so the fish would eat that instead. That’s why the Chinese, to this very day, eat this stuff on the 28th, in remembrance of him.

I finally found the cord thing for my camera, so I can upload pictures now! Huzzah! Tomorrow, I will (finally) post pictures from my trip to Ottawa.

As an ending note, I made two new e-mails and blogs: for graphics, and to write about my gaming experiences and other stuff like that. :) They’re still in progress though.

National Sorry Day

Currently feeling: angelstar-kaos005 Clean

Just took a shower with pomegranate-scented shampoo and it smells wonderful! Will probably be gone by tomorrow, though. X.x

For those who read my blog, yes, I changed the blog theme. I have used the old one for a *long* time, so I thought maybe it was time for a change. :) So, here we go. I’m also revamping certain sections to make them more… pleasing to the eye, shall we say? xD At least the banners no longer look squished…

Now, for the title of this post… National Sorry Day is a national Australian event. An act from the government ordered that all Aboriginal children be removed from their families, an event that was known as the “Stolen Children.” This day became National Sorry Day to acknowledge the wrongs towards them, and a step towards the healing process. Despite this, it is not an official holiday.

International Day for Biological Diversity

Currently feeling: chikas_pink18 Tired and Sleepy (once again)

This is a UN sanctioned event for the promotion of biodiversity issues.

Biodiversity is the variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, biome, or for the entire Earth. Biodiversity is often used as a measure of the health of biological systems. The biodiversity found on Earth today consists of many millions of distinct biological species, which is the product of nearly 3.5 billion years of evolution.

From Wikipedia, cuz I’m too lazy to type anything. xD Credit for definition goes to Wikipedia.

Anyways, I’ll be blogging about my Ottawa trip once I manage to get the pictures onto the computer. Which will probably be… sometime next week?

I’ve found out about a really cute webcomic/manga called Hetalia: Axis Powers. It’s about the countries of the world in a WWII time period. What’s really interesting is that the countries are personified by anthropomorphic characters. For example:

The guy in blue is Northern Italy, the guy in green is Germany, and the guy in white is Japan. This series pokes fun at stereotypes. :P For example, Italy REALLY loves pasta and pizza. xD

Of course, there’s Canada!~

He’s often forgotten. ^^; His polar bear forgets his name most of the time, and people usually don’t remember his name… He’s so invisible, once, Russia sat in his lap, not realizing Canada was already sitting there, and once he got off, he commented on “how comfortable” the chair was. xD That’s because he is often overshadowed by his brother, America.

Don’t worry Canada, I still love you!~ *ahem*

Well, this post turned out to be more of a Hetalia post than one about Biodiversity… sorry about that!

Victoria Day

Currently feeling: angelstar-kaos027Sleepy

Today, we get a day off school because of Victoria Day! Which rocks, because we hardly had any school this week. We spent a wonderful 3 days in Ottawa (will be blogging about that later) and now, we have a 3 day weekend. ^^

Anyways, Victoria Day is celebrated on the last Monday before or on May 24. This year, it’s celebrated on the 18th. It’s to celebrate the birthday of this queen.

Flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Protocol requires the Royal Union flag to be flown from sunrise to sunset at all federal buildings. Many parades are held throughout Canada, most prominently in Victoria, BC, the monarch’s namesake city.

And of course, there are fireworks! chikas_pink29

I myself will be watching some of them! Yesterday, some people from our neigbourhood set off fireworks in their backyard… ^^; But they were pretty!

Oh, and if anyone wants to know more about Queen Victoria, here’s link to her Wikipedia article:

Hope everyone whose celebrating Victoria Day is enjoying their day off school/work! I know I am. :)

International Nurses Day!

Currently feeling: angelstar-kaos004 Excited!

I’m on my way to Ottawa for a 3 day graduation trip with my friends! So, that means I won’t be blogging for the next 3 days. :)

Well, today is International Nurses Day, as you can see from the title. xD It’s to celebrate all the nurses around the world for their wonderful contribution to society.

This day was originally chosen to honour Florence Nightingale, because this day is her birthday.

So, to all nurses around the world, we salute you!

Sanriotown Quizzes

Currently feeling: chikas_pink34Still depressed

Anyways, to cheer myself up, I decided to do some of the quizzes in Sanriotown. Here are the results. ^^

HelloKittyQuiz1.jpg picture by Ariaette

I found this quiz a bit odd… but at least I managed to get my “perfect figure!” xD

MyMelodybombquiz.jpg picture by Ariaette

CinnamorollQuiz.jpg picture by Ariaette

Well, that was the most logical solution to me… xD

Hey, if anyone else took some of the quizzes and posted it in their blogs, let me know! I would love to read some of them. :)

I’m so glad I finally learned how to take screenies! Snipping tool on Windows Vista makes screenie-ing a whole lot easier! :P

(Btw, if anyone wants to see them in a bigger size, click and drag the images to the address bar!)

Happy Mother’s Day! (And Small Rant)

Currently feeling: onigiri_crying Heavy-hearted

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

And now for the rant:

WHAT HAPPENED TO RHTHYM? I mean, he is my favourite Sanrio character! What happened to the merchandise? The pictures? The wallpapers? There’s nothing for him! N-O-T-H-I-N-G!

When I googled him, I only found two pictures of him. Two. Come on, people! Come on! T_T I have to be stuck with only two poses to work with in my button and signature. And look at the picture I posted above! Melody’s mom is Rhythm’s mom, too! How come Rhythm can’t show some appreciation to his mommy? (Sanrio people, you guys rock, but please, draw more pictures of Rhythm!).

Anyways, don’t mind me. I’m actually really depressed at the moment. One of video games deleted my file (and I hate starting things all over again!), and another one freezes up at a certain point of the story, so I can never go further in the game.  I’m actually heartbroken about the second one. It was such a fun game, and now… it’s all over. T_T Oh, and I missed Hissi Day on Neopets! And I love Hissis! ARGGGHHH!!!

*Slinks off to mope in emo corner*

(BTW, I’m not actually emo. I just have an emo corner. Kthx)

World Fair Trade Day

Currently feeling: angelstar-kaos018 Eager

This day is organized by the World Fair Trade Organization, or the WFTO. Support is drawn from 350 fair trade organizations.

This day promotes:

Creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged products

Transparency & accountability

Capacity building

Payment of a fair price

Improved Working conditions

Gender Equality

The environment

2009’s theme would be the BIG BANG!

Go to this page for more info!

In other news, I’ll be working on some new signatures and banners when I have the time. :3 So, stay tuned to that, I guess.

Will be blogging about Mother’s Day tomorrow!

Oh, and I won’t be here on the 13th, 14th and 15th, as I’ll be on a trip. :)

New Signatures/Banners Page

Currently feeling: angelstar-kaos015 Frustrated

Well, I have made a new page:

On here, I have posted several banners/signatures for public use. The problem is, I’m having all sorts of trouble posting them on the page; every single time I finish my work and save, most of the banners and stuff get cut off each time… well, I’ve finally managed to fix it up! ^^;

I guess this post is sort of a heads up for everyone… use one if you want, but please read the Terms of Use section on the page!

If you have any questions, just e-mail me:! I would love to get some input. :)
