Fat Kitty needs a CPU diet

February 17th, 2009 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

If you’re sick of seeing your CPU grind away at 100%, howling fans, laggy browsing and overall unresponsiveness thanks to HKO, then this might be good news for you:

This nifty little program is called BES. You can get it here: http://mion.faireal.net/BES/

What it basically does is limit how much CPU usage a single program can grab. As you can see in the screenshot above, I set HKO to 50%. It still runs fine now, but by how much you can limit it depends on your hardware of course.

Using the program is very straightforward. Extract the .zip file and run the BES.exe. Click the Target button and pick HKO.exe from the list. Click Limit this. If you want to catch HKO every time you run BES, click Limit/Watch instead.

After selecting HKO.exe you can use the options under Control… to adjust the CPU usage. (If you doubleclick anywhere on the background you can load your own image.)

That’s all. Enjoy your freed CPU cycles!

Feed me air

February 15th, 2009 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

/Update: Since we’re still rolling back like a drunk donkey, I went and put some more stuff in. The layout’s changed a bit and there’s a close button now. The timer resets when ’1′ is pressed, so if you know how to send keys to applications it can work as intended.

 ————————————————————–

After getting rolled back three times yesterday I went off to do something worthwhile(?) and learned how to write basic AIR applications. Well, to be precise, I made a somewhat, if barely, useful pet feeding timer to avoid having to check the status in the pet window:

(image removed)

Basically it counts the 134 seconds it takes to fill an empty hunger bar. When the bar is full, the bone turns green, meaning you can feed the pet. After feeding you click the bone and the timer resets. Of course, you need to synchronize it to the feeding timer manually first.

There are also two modes. The first mode stops the bar whenever it’s full and waits for a manual reset. The second restarts the bar automatically after 1.5 seconds. You can toggle between them with the left button (circle). The button next to the circle is for keeping the timer on top of all windows.

You can drag the timer around with the progress bar. Rightclick the taskbar icon to close.

You might also need to install the AIR runtime first: http://get.adobe.com/air/

I’ll polish the display up a bit later.. maybe.

A tiny founder christmas preview

December 17th, 2008 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

Hohoho, HKO Christmas reunion (countdown) is creeping closer! And so is my thesis deadline ๏̯͡๏﴿. Sadly the latter has a higher priority, so I’ll be limited to short visits (if any at all)  instead of hour-long sessions. Sigh.

The overwhelming workload still didn’t keep me from snooping around in the newly added files, of course. Here’s a little preview of the stuff we’ll get tomorrow!

New york! Slightly more candy-colored than I remember.

Two random (of 7?) rooms!

A stadion! Let’s hope o-Chan isn’t there! HA HA HA.. HA asdfdsfadfs burry balls D:<

insert witty caption

Of course, there’s also new stuff to wear.

Suits! Shoes! Hats!

Beards. Badass! Those better be equippable by female characters too!

 Lastly, I found this:

Well.. uh.

Skinned knees are easier to fix than broken cards

November 25th, 2008 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

Last week my graphics card died, and with no shop around that still sells AGP cards, I had to order one.. and wait ;o;.

All of this could’ve been avoided, though. The random reboots, card not starting, random rendering lag and bugs as well as the howling fan were a dead giveaway. Well, that’s what I get for procrastinating.

Here’s a photo of it on its last days.

Yep, that’s a needle stuck in an (unused!) earplug, mounted on a plastic chip, resting on my never used TV card, keeping the fan from jittering around.

With computer rooms at the university being either occupied, full of loud idiots or simply without the proper software, I was more or less forced to take a timeout. Now I’m even further behind with my thesis schedule, leaving my days even more, er, filled with actionscripting and general flashing!

Speaking of flashing..

Eargh! One of the worst bugs in FB! I applied some basic censoring to protect innocent relatives and your eyes.

The flasher is attempting to flee after satisfying his dirty fetish, but not before I managed to get a mugshot. Meanwhile, the green-clad pimp remains unfazed. Might there be a CONNECTION?!

(I wisely cut out the chat window. When o-chan’s the topic, things get ugly fast.)

Well, back to flash!

FB impressions, part I

November 16th, 2008 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

Wrestling around with actionscript and php all day leaves little time & motivation to trudge through boring file lists, so I’ll post some FB screenies instead. Hooray!

My first ingame screenshot, thanks to ripplecloud telling me that it’s f11 instead of printscreen. Duh. I think this is on the second day. When the server finally opened up it was like past 5 in the morning for me, so I just secured my nickname and went to bed. Look who sneaked into the screenie o_o.

Baldie!
For quite a while pink hair was buggy, resulting in bald people! They fixed it afterwards, but it’s kinda sad to see the hairless disappear completely.

Ah, London. Londan. Landon. It’s like they did this intentionally!

This again was before they polished/retranslated the London area script. Luckily they fixed most of the stuff a few days after. Or sadly, the gibberish was semi-entertaining.

By the way, does anyone else think these shop guys look like pimps? See:

Fig1: Shop guy                                 Fig2: Googled pimp

The similiarities are unnerving. Is the Sanrio land economy run by organized crime?! More about this in the evening news! Stay tuned!

Uhh.. this looks like a good opportunity to stop the browsing for now.
Ta-ta!

Two bosses, one sprite

November 12th, 2008 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

mb007 mb008 mb009
mb010 mb011 mb012

These six complete the boss roster (for now). Hrm. Palette swaps were semi-expected for the normal monsters, but to cheap out on the bosses as well is a tad disappointing.

This short post was sponsored by the Mario brothers. Whee.

From helper boss to hero pet

November 11th, 2008 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

More bosses! Whee. See someone familiar? Yep, our dear little big t-rex pet is actually a boss. I guess that means getting his card in OB won’t be as easy as whacking four rabid pets and turning their collars in. Camping ahoy!

You love dirt! DIG! Sweet dirt! DIG! DIG! DIG!

November 10th, 2008 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

I was digging around in the FB HKO data folders and found a few interesting things I’ll randomly post when I’ve got the time & motivation. Here’s a sneak peek at what I guess are some of the boss monsters:

If you use the GIFs for something, credit would be nice, because making them was pretty annoying. Maybe I’ll find a less ham-fisted method for getting them later, though.

No Keroppi theme!

November 8th, 2008 by applecrusher:hellokitty.com

Why? You make Keroppi sad :(

Keroppi

Okay, he’s smiling, cause he’s awesome like that and has a fish, but he’s crying inside. Little frog tears :’(

This is a test
