“Why aren’t you sleeping right now?”
That’s what my dorm mate IM-ed me a few minutes ago.
So to update you on what’s been happening, I started working at Steps, this bar/club at Sakae here in Nagoya. I went in Tuesday for the interview.
Normally, I would never think about bartending. But that’s probably because:
1. I was in the Philippines. I wouldn’t dare working late at a bar/club in the Philippines. It’s kinda scary.
2. I prolly think I’m invincible here since I’m a foreigner.
3. I didn’t have friends who also worked at the same place.
So yeah. Lachelle, the African-American girl who’s a batch higher than me works at this place. Stephanie, a girl from Memphis, also worked there before. That was, until the hours killed her. Shifts can be from 5:30pm-11pm or 11pm-6am.
If you don’t already know, we have free breakfast and dinner here at the dorm. Breakfast is from 7am-8:30am, and dinner is from 6pm-10pm.
So guess which shift I chose?
Friday was horrible. We came back from our field trip to Mie prefecture (Ninja museum, parks, stones, some other stuff — I’ll update next time. Prolly link you to my other blog.) at around 5pm on Friday. From there, I went home to shower and change, and then went straight to Sakae.
On my first day, I was in charge of this fridge which contained the canned and bottled stuff–beer, water, etc. They showed me how to tap draft beer (did I say that right?) but then I didn’t end up doing that cause they think it was too complicated for me. I didn’t mix any drinks either–I basically washed the used glasses and yawned around. I WAS SOOOOO TIRED FROM THE FIELD TRIP.
Anyway, I died when I got home. I went straight to sleep and didn’t wake up till 5pm on Saturday. And then I updated my Multiply and stuff and then prepared for work.
Work last night was soooooooo much better. I didn’t fall asleep on the job. Plus, they let me do the draft beer thing, as well as other drinks. Teeheehee. And the boss gave us a shot of tequila–all of us–early in the evening, and then gave us another drink on the house. And then two customers gave all of the bartenders a drink of their choice. So that’s a glass of beer, 2 tequila shots, and 1 Malibu coke for me.
Didn’t get drunk, mind you.
Nyahaha. I love working at a place where the music is kick ass. Plus, we can dance! Never mind that it doesn’t pay as well as the teaching thing, but at least it’s at night. So it doesn’t stop me from doing both!
Anyway, sleep calls! I have a student at 11am! And then a meeting at 1:30pm!
P.S. Isn’t it obvious why I’m blogging this here? I don’t think my parents would approve of me bartending.
