Mourning Monday
Heard the news lately?
Last Monday, 33 people (including the shooter) were killed in a shooting rampage. And now they’re all wondering why the school didn’t shut the school down after the first shooting (there was a long interval between the first and the second one). According to the authorities, they believed the first incident to be “domestic in nature.”
Who are they to decide that–they didn’t shut the school down and didn’t even try to spread the incident wide enough. If enough were
done, maybe a lot of them would still be breathing, don’t you think?
Imagine having to experience terror and desperation knowing that the gunman is nearing and is shooting at everybody in sight–with the doors barred and with no where to go. Some even jumped off windows.
Argh. I don’t want to die like that.
Though they say that dying by a gunshot doesn’t hurt that much–I wonder how he knew that.

this is so sad. i was watching a CNN exclusive a while ago at the Jesuit Residence, and i was really appalled by how the anchor was asking the right questions but derriving at answers that are not “fair”, so to speak.
it was very racist against asians. i hope this won’t flame the racist tendencies of US. (at least i hope it won’t aggrevate it again)

*well, don’t get me wrong, what the korean (well, he’s more american, because he migrated and stayed in US since 8 yrs old up to this year) is wrong, and we do not discount that fact.

Hahaha. I actually didn’t see why they had to tell people over and over that the guy was Asian.
I was like– Huh? Does your nationality dictate who you are?
April 18th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Yeah I know!!!
He’s more American than Asian! Ugh! Do you know that a lot of Koreans are leaving that place, because of that…

Here in Brazil we have a lot of people from diferent nations and we all live in peace…of course that people likes to make jokes with people who descends from asians, africans, but with respect…
In USA I think that the relantionships are not like that…

Very sad indeed.

@Bong: That’s sad, indeed!
I betcha they’ll come here. Hahaha. Kidding. We seem to have an onset of Koreans here.
@Lutymishima: Woah! That’s really something–to live in a country without discrimination. I didn’t think it was possible!
Thanks for sharing! Yeah, I think so too…
@Tingal: Isn’t it?

I actually live in Virginia, and my best friend goes to VTech but she’s coming home for the week now. Thank God she was still sleeping when it happened. At first I didn’t feel anything since my bf was okay, but after watching all the news, the tragedy really struck me. The victims were innocent and all had bright futures ahead of them, and this happened. The number of victims is unbelievable, too. My heart goes to the families of the victims and the shooter…
I don’t know why the authorities dealt with the first situation like that, but they had a reason and if they made a mistake, they better have learned from it because 30 people lost their lives because of it. But, I don’t think there’s anyone to blame, even the people who made the mistake. No one knows if the 30 extra deaths could have been prevented for sure, so I don’t think finger pointing is necessary.
About the discrimination, I don’t know if I should be afraid but the Korean media is already starting. They said that Korean kids in elementary school are already being harassed, and Korean people in VTech are getting nasty stares. (But they like to over-exaggerate sometimes.) I went to Annandale (a sort of Korea-town here) and the streets were bare and so much more quiet than usual. I’m so ashamed that he was Korean and feel guilty for the name he put on Asians. Superbong’s comment about Cho being a Korean-American is an interesting point because I see two points in it: first, that he was raised in America, so there shouldn’t be any discrimination against Koreans (and most definitely not against Asians in general.) And second, so should the discrimination (if any) be pointed towards Korean-Americans, like me? It’s more justifiable than Koreans. I want to believe that America won’t discriminate, but it’s inevitable that there’ll be little here and there since humanity isn’t exactly perfect yet. I’m going to prepare myself to expect some because of 9/11 and the discriminations Middle Easterners got. It wasn’t horrible (at least, from what I’ve seen and experienced) but there definitely were some. I just wish and hope that people would remember the victims and not focus on who to blame.
Sorry for the long comment… o_o;; And, I’m very very sorry if I offended anyone because I didn’t mean to. This was all just my opinions and thoughts.

wow … nice to hear of news from someone near that area. i believe that he should be considered as an american as well. the “asian” thing is just lineage reference, and very superficial.

Erin: Don’t worry. There’s not discrimination here–coming from me especially
I understand (Or I’m trying to, anyway) You raised interesting points. You don’t mind if I blog this, do you?
The thing is, I like saying my “what if’s” because you never know what would’ve happened.
Tingal:
Zerovoltage: I really really don’t see the point why people still think that stating nationalities is worth anything.

Oh, I know you guys wouldn’t discriminate… o_o;; I meant the people around here, where I live. I dunno what to expect from them… And, you’re free to blog about whatever you want whether I mind it or not. @_@ I blogged about it, too. XD
And, I wasn’t really pointing this towards anyone; your entry and everyone’s comments (especially Superbong’s) just got me thinking and then I spilled all my thoughts onto your blog. Sorry, and I hope nobody got offended! >_
April 19th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Hahaha. Yeah! That’s no problem, dear
You’re most welcome to spill your thoughts here
If anyone got offended, I’d kick them out of my blog for you
