The first time I learned of “West Side Story” was when I was in my early teens.  My sis in law rented a laser disc of the musical.  (I know laser disc! Now you probably can gauge my age he he he) I was fascinated with all the song and dance numbers.  I love the song “Tonight” and “A Time for Us” best.  Some of the livelier songs that I enjoy would be “Only in America” because the dance number that came with it was pretty much exciting.  I know it is more on interpretative dances.  Which I think kids nowadays would think it’s corny and would probably get bored by it.

My Mom got some tickets for the stage presentation of the musical.  So the Frog and I went with her.  Though Froggy didn’t know that he is the only guy to come along  LOLS!   I think it is cool of him because at least I can tell everyone that my husband went and watched the play with me.  (Wub u Froggy)  Anyhoo, the local stage presentation was not to my liking.  I was expecting a lot, probably because the lead is quite a popular singer.  Don’t get me wrong, he is not really that bad.  I just think that they should have cast another singer for the role.  As for Maria, if she sang the songs in her natural voice and not too operatic I think it would have work.  My sister who also went to watch the play said that there’s no chemistry between the two lead characters which I totally agree.  The supporting character “Anita” in my opinion stole the show.  She sang her songs loud and clear.  And she’s quite entertaining to watch.  Overall the play is so-so.
