New Jobs and Conventions

I have not blogged for a while because I there was no new news until now.
I have a new job starting Monday. It going to be a hit on the wages but I will survive.
This means I will have a chance to attend some conventions. First up is a trip to the Sanrio store (double stamp Wednesday) to pick up a lanyard for my con badges and a wallet; I was putting off the wallet purchase to replace my old and falling apart one. One problem with using a women’s wallet is finding one that is a size of a billfold and one that can hold my stuff. Men’s wallets seem to hold more cards than women’s wallets. I also bough more sticks for the laptop.

The conventions I will attend:

Kumoricon the Anime Convention in Portland Oregon Sep 5-7 2009.

Rainfurrest the furry convention at the Seattle Airport Marriott Sep 18-20 2009

I hope to see some of you (older fans) at Kunoricon or even at Rainfurrest. I will have my Hello Kitty backpack at both.

Going to a Convention

onIt been a while

I was in
Seattle WA for Rainfurrest a Furry convention in September. I drove up on Thursday, so I decided to visit a Sanrio Gift Gate at
Belleview Square. I was kind of disappointed that it was so small; it had a lot of trinkets but no coffee cups or ones I like nor plushies. I picked up a pack of stickers and keeping with the season the Halloween Plush.

For those who do not know what a Furry con is like a big family reunion and party where furry who know each other on line get meet each other face to face. Like Anime conventions there are panes on fursuit construction and performance, writing and Art. I mainly stuck to art panels and making new and meeting old friends.  There also events like dinners and the fursuit parade and the dealer’s den. I also attended art jams, where fellow artist get together and talk and draw during the evening hours.

I brought one of my kitties for the ride. I left her looking  out of my hotel Room.

Am I a Pioneer?

Am I a Pioneer?

Thanks to Hello Kitty Hell, this article in Time was brought to my attention.

10 Questions for Yuko Yamaguchi

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1834451,00.html

What I found amusing was her answer to the Question about Hello Kitty Future.

In 10 years’ time, everybody around the world will know her. Also, the number of male and female fans will be the same. Men who are still reluctant to be seen with Kitty in public today might be wearing Hello Kitty boxers. But they will eventually stop being shy and will show off Kitty proudly.

I guess that makes me a and a few other men pioneers. The first generation, then again it would be interesting to see who might be the first male fans. Now I know some have written her off as eccentric coot but as I look at it deeper, she may know something we are missing. We’re talking about somebody who took a failing line turn into a multi million Yen empire. Secondly while see dress eccentrically most entrepreneurs are eccentric and mavericks because they are the ones willing to think outside the box and take risk. Still there no guarantee Hello Kitty will go where no Kitty has gone before: in men’s lives.
